Sales Tax on Photography?

Sales Tax on Photography?

I just wanted to double check if you were all charged tax on your photography services. Since its a service I thought it wouldn't be. I thought the tax would only be on the albums (I'm not getting any). Then again, maybe its because I'm getting the pics on a DVD?

Any insight into this would be greatly appreciated.

TIA

There is no sales tax on my contract. I just have a package price. Not sure if that includes sales tax, but it wasn't mentioned in the meeting with my photographer.

Just pulled out my contract to check - yes, we were charged sales tax. We have a basic
package that will include the disc with the photos, unmarked printed proofs, a design of a thank you card and an e-shoot.

I have a basic package where I get a cd with the hi-res pics of the day no albums and I am not getting charged sales tax. I wasn't charged sales tax for my epics either

I am being charged sales tax. I just assumed there would be from the beginning. I believe It's only a taxable service when you're receiving something tangible like prints, albums, or a CD.

No tax and I have the whole package albums, parent albums, video, engagement shoot, etc.

I don't know the laws about it. Maybe it's up to the photographers discretion? But in any case, it's not an unreasonable charge if you're receiving a product.

There should be tax because you're getting the photos, albums, etc. The tax isn't on the service, it's on the products.

Yes, we were charged tax for our package. We asked them if we paid cash they would take the tax off, but they said no, that even if people pay cash they still report it for tax purposes. They did give us another discount though for paying in cash, which then reduced the cost of the taxes.
