Salvation Army...

I want to donate my clothes....i have 2 options...

1--- salvation army....how does it work (in terms of them valuing the clothes you donate for tax deductions) and where is the nearest one in queens....

2--just give it away in a clothing bin

any other ideas??

Re: Salvation Army...

i know in queens i donate all my stuff to st. marys church in brooklyn (if that makes any sense) - they come pick it up and they leave a donation receipt @ your door. i just give the receipts to my accountant @ tax time -dont really know what i get off my taxes.
go to salvation armys website - they should have some info there for you.

i know in PA there is one that i have dropped stuff off @ but i used the donation box out front.

I've learned that it's not so easy to donate to the Salvation Army. You should search for the nearest location to drop off items and they might have a limit, such as 3 bags only. I know there's one in Hempstead or West hempstead. There's also one in Jamaica Queens, little rough over there. Some places are not accepting as they have too much stuff and large furniture items you have to call ahead and schedule a pick up usually two weeks in advance, good luck gettiing through to their donations phone number-usually very busy.
