sample dress sizes

I haven't started looking yet.. but I am planning on giving myself a little over a year..... so like start looking in Feb.... (give me 2 mos to take off 10 lbs hehe)

I've always had a hard time with dresses (been a BM many times) and the thing is that my BIGGEST area is the width around my back/chest.... i have a BROAD built... im small.. about 5 foot 2.. but my back is my widest point.. and i have a hard time with dresses because they have to order them in a big size for my back and then take in everywhere else, etc... but anyway..
I am concerned about sample sizes.. the last few times I went to try on BM dresses the sample size was an 8... and it didn't close AT ALL... as I am more like a 12/14 in those really formfitting bridesmaid dresses...

I amworried that it's going to be hard to tell what the wedding gown looks like on me.. if i can't CLOSE THEM.. because they are all tiny sizes.....

As you know, I've been dress shopping like crazy! Most samples I've seen are a 10 or a 12, so they won't be too tight on you. The 10's usually fit me, but I tried on one that was a 6, and she just didn't zip it up, I still got a sense of what it would look like.
You have so much time, my advice is don't do what I did!
Start now, take your time, so you don't have to go everyday for 2 weeks then make a decision. I'm going nuts!

I bought a sample dress , its a size 10, Im a size 2 and it almost fits me well, I will have alterations done to fit like a glove but I feel like bridal sample gowns run small but it also depends on the designer.

The sample dress sizes are almost true to fit. I think it all depends on the designer. Before you buy or order the gown, the bridal store should take your measurements for you and recommend the size that you should be purchasing. No matter what you would want to get alterations for your dress to make it as falttering on you as possible.

Good luck with the search.

I agree, I'm a size 4 and the sample dress was a 10 and fit perfectly. We decided to order a 12 that way I dont have to worry if I gain a few pounds in the next 9 months. My mom insisted that I go up a size and take it in just to avoid last minute stress. Dresses def ran SMALL!

I think it depends. I am a 6/7 and the 8 for my designer fit me perfectly - so in my case it was quite true to size.
