Sandals Montego Bay

Has anyone ever been to this particular resort? I love Jamaica and I have been to the Ocho Rios one. We have decided to go back for our Honeymoon. We really wanted to go to Negril, but it was pretty expensive, so we opted for Montego Bay. We have had such a hard time with booking a honeymoon thats under 8K because we are going to be away winter break so this is what we can afford. (granted its still 6K) I know I have heard stuff about the planes flying right over you. I just wanted to have a honeymoon that had a direct flight and was nearby the airport. We have done so much traveling for the past 2 years with layovers, trains, sbahns, ubahns etc. I just want to relax without the stress of traveling. sorry I'm venting, but I'm getting worried. I don't want to spend 10 days at a resort that I'm going to hate LOL.!!!!

Re: Sandals Montego Bay

FH & I went there 3 years ago-what do you want to know??

I thought the resort was very narrow-meaning it wasn't much beyond the beach front area; the Ocho Rios one was a much bigger resort with the two sides and all.

We had the most fun at that resort-the guests & staff were very young and very entertaining. FH & I both got sick eating at the beach gril (burgers & french fries). The grill food was so yummy; but we both got sick and felt it was from there. When we ate at the Arizona bbq place on the beach where your feet are in the sand; we felt very itchy on our feet; and got bit by some things in the sand. THe pool closest to our room w/the swim up bar was closed our entire stay; so we had to go over to the main pool with was really very boring-just a rectangle pool with not much going on. We did like the restaurant with the japanese food; and the other one (i think baysides). Oh and one night at the buffet they had Crab legs-SO GOOD!! They went fast.
We did couples massages there too; very nice and relaxing. I liked the look of the ocho rios resort better; but FH likes the atmosphere at montego bay. We even rented a cab with another couple and two of the staff one night to go into town to margarehita villa; i don't recommend doing this though. I didn't feel very safe when we were STILL in the club at 2am waiting for the staff and it was nothing but locals. Up until about 1am it was a lot of tourist.
Yes you see the planes flying over; but you don't really notice them after the 2nd day; and people usually start to wave and it just becomes a good laugh when you see them.

I'd go back to the resort; the good thing about sandals is that you can go between properties...how about sandals royal caribbean in montego bay that's right down from mobay resort and i think it's a little nicer (that has the restaurant on the seperate island)

We spent 3 night @ sandals grande ocho rios ;and 3 nights at mobay-i wouldn't have liked staying 10 nights there though; i'd try the nicer property if you're going to stay that long.

I might have some pics-i'll try to post.

Thanks for the info! I was thinking about having him call the travel agent and seeing if we could stay at royal carrib. for a few days instead of being at Mobay for 10 days. I had a blast at Ocho rios, but was not impressed by thier beach...it was very small. Mobay has a bigger beach right? Overall what did you think of the rooms? Were they nicer then Ocho Rios? Orginally we were supposed to got o either St. Lucia or Antigua, but it was not working out for us because of the flights times, price etc......

Re: Sandals Montego Bay

you're right about ocho rios-the beach is cut off; at Mobay it's a long strand of beach. I remember thinking there was more beach there.

The room was great-i forget the bldg we were in; but we went with whatever their basic room was (was celebrating our 1 year anniversary; but nothing extravagant like a honeymoon). i love the big 4-poster king bed and it wasn't a far walk to the main area with the restaurants. I think the rooms were about the same-same type of decor; oh the thing that kind of freaked me out at Mobay was the lizards-they're EVERYwhere! And they climb the walls right next to the doors I was always afraid opening the door that i would see a lizard. Or that a lizard would climb though one of the vents in the bathrooms!

Re: Sandals Montego Bay

We just made our final payment to Sandals Montego Bay. I read a lot of reviews about this place before deciding. I found good reviews and also some bad. However, most of the bad reviews were either something that was a coincidence that could happen anywhere, or stuff I could live with (ie planes flying overhead - I used to live directly next to the LIRR!!)

The conclusion I came up with is that it may not the best Sandals resort there is but it is still a very good resort. Most people told me you can´t go wrong at a Sandals. I too wanted to be close to the airport (wer´re only going 5 days) but couldn´t afford the other places around there.

I was looking through their website last night, specifically at the Montego Bay info and I´m getting really excited. I´ll be going in less than two months so I´ll let you know how it goes.

You may want to try contacting [email protected] I believe the quote she gave us was cheaper than what I saw online. And if you do land & air through her she gets great deals.

I just got back from this resort last night and it was absolutely amazing!! You should have no worries at all. Two other couples came with us to celebrate Fh bday. The food was amazing, the people were so nice, and the rooms were gorgeous. We used the spa and did an excursion to Dunns River Falls (which you have to do - it was awesome!). It is really cute how the staff waves to the planes when they are leaving...even if they are having a conversation lol. We started waving to the planes too. We were so sad to leave and would def go back!
