We are trying to decide between 2 bands. One of them is an 8-piece band. Very good, standard kind of wedding band. The other is a 10-piece band that specializes in R&B, Soul, Funk and Jazz. Fi really likes the bigger band, but we are afraid that they will be too big for the room. Did you have this problem?

I don't have a band - sorry - but I don't think 8 pieces is too big. There is plenty of room over by the fireplace and along the border of the dance floor.

We got a DJ for our wedding next July at Sans Souci.
The only thing to keep in mind is that if you are tight on tables for your guests, an 8 to 10 piece band pretty much take up a table themselves. So you would probably have to keep 2 tables for vendors (photographer, videographer, and band all have to be fed.)

YIKES!! clpunch, you mean I'm supposed to seat the vendors with my guests?? I know they need to eat, but I can't remember ever being to a wedding where the band had a table. I'm totally tight on tables. When I was going over floor plans with Carol she didn't mention having to reserve a table for the vendors. That would drive me nuts. I want the band to be happy and comfortable, but I'm paying them thousands of dollars to entertain my guests, not join them.

My girlfriends put the vendors at tables in another room they weren't using (like where the cocktail hour was) but since that's where the dance floor is, and i can't think of anywhere else, my vendors will be off to the side. I was figuring in that space where the florist is during the showcase.
But it does take away from the space you have available to your guests.

I forgot to say that since my wedding is still 10 months away, I haven't sat down to talk to anyone there about where to put them. That was just what FH and I had discussed. Maybe someone who has already had their wedding there can tell you where they put their vendors.

If I have to seat my vendors I'm going to freak! I finally got my final seating arrangements in and it is tight. The only place I would be able to put them is in the alcove. Maybe they could eat upstairs in the bridal suite?

Re: Sans Souci Brides, how big is your band?
Okay ladies,
I got married in May at the Sans Souci and had an 8-piece band (the Times Square Orchestra in case you were interested ) All I can say is that I left everything up to my band and they did an incredible job with the set up (not to mention the music). They took up the corner to the right of the fireplace and had no problems.
Now we fed the band as well. And NO we did not seat them. They didn't need a seat if they were playing the whole time, right We didn't have anyone sitting in the alcove, and I didn't see them eat, so it really does beg the question - 'Where did my band eat!!' I was so busy I never noticed!!
Just ask Carol. She was very helpful with everything for us. And leave it up to the band to decide if there is room. We knew the TSO had played at Sans Souci before, so we weren't worried.
Good Luck!!

MY FRIEND HAD THE TIMES SQUARE ORCHESTRA AT HER WEDDING AND THEY GAVE HER THE OPTION OF ADDING ON PIECES TO MAKE IT A TEN PIECE IF SHE WANTED. I SAW THEM AS AN EIGHT PIECE AT HER WEDDING AND THOUGHT THEY WERE AWESOME. I'M GOING TO THEIR SHOWCASE THIS WEEK.
