Saturday after thanksgiving

Saturday after thanksgiving

Hi, I am new to the boards. I was wondering if anyone is getting married the saturday after thanksgiving? I was thinking of getting married that day in 2009. The only thing holding me back is that its a holiday weekend. I keep telling myself that it is not a huge travel holiday so people won't mind as much. For the girls who are getting married that day, have you had good responses? For those who are not, would you mind going to a wedding that Saturday? Please be honest with your opinions! I am confused as what to do. Thank you so much!!

I AM!!

We didnt care that it was a holiday weekend because the date is our 5 year anniversary. I will say our no ratio was about 30%. BUT I think a lot of it is due to the economy right now. My dad heard on the radio that 30-40% of people invited to weddings can't afford to go.

If thats the day you want, then I say choose it. The important people, the people that matter, will be there regardless of the day you choose.

You are right!! Congrats by the way... your day is so close!! I think 30% no is basically the norm anyway. My feeling is that my friends who moved away come home to see their parents that weekend anyway... so now they won't have to make two trips.

I got married on a holiday. JUly 4th. You always get people that might have something to say. But we had a great turnout. Everyone that cares about you will be there no matter what day you choose. I say go for it!!!!!

I wanted to get married the FRIDAY after - that was my dream wedding day since like high school, but my fiance and mom refused saying people go away that weekend, etc.

Thanks, I know you are right! I went to a wedding the day after 4th of july this year and it was a lot of fun.

I also wanted to clarify that I meant not a 'huge travel weekend' as in-- people don't go on big vacations during thanksgiving. I realize its a big travel weekend cause everyone is going to their families. I just want people to want to come my wedding.

i think it should be fine...and just send your save the dates out earlier.

im getting married the day before thanksgiving and no one has complained about the date. we have a 23% no response but a good bunch of them are older people who can no longer travel.

in our case more people didn't like the whole no kids thing more so than the date which meant that 1 parent rsvp'd yes and one no

good luck!

that is the absolute truth. No matter what date you pick there will be people who won't make it and will disappoint you, however, the People who love you and are happy for you will make whatever day you choose, work for them b/c they want to celebrate with you.

I love weddings around the Thanksgiving weekend. My sister got married on the Saturday after, and my cousin got married on the night before. Its such a great time of year, everyone is already in the family mode, I think its perfect for a wedding.

I'm getting married two days after Christmas and 4 days before New Year's Eve and oh boy did we get comments like 'your not going to get any gifts' or 'People will be travelling that week'.

We love the holiday's and there was no way we weren't having out wedding during that time. So that being said people will come to the wedding....those who want to will and those who can't won't. Just pick the day you and your FH want to go with and tune out everyone's noise.

Thanksgiving is a MAJOR holiday and travel is horrible that weekend. Dont think its not just any holiday.

I got married on a holiday weekend. We did have no's but thats to be expected.

The ones that mean the most to you will be there. You are going to get grief from someone no matter what date you pick.

Re: Saturday after thanksgiving

i am going to be honest - i wouldn't do it - not so much because of people traveling but because its like a food overload - our wedding is one week after the thanksgiving holiday and i am soooo worried people will still be so stuffed from thanksgiving that they won't want to even look at the food hahahahaha....and traveling can be a horror - i thought it was the most traveled holiday?

with that said any day you pick you will run into problems - no day is perfect - i can list a whole bunch of reasons why my date isn't perfect - #1. its a friday #2. its a week after thanksgiving #3. its in between holidays #4. its december, its cold, chance of bad weather.....i am sure i could go on and on - but for US the date worked - we got more for our money than we would on a saturday (plus the saturday we wanted was booked anyway), we love the holidays its our favorite time of the year and that is why we wanted a holiday wedding, having a friday wedding worked out the best for us as far as taking days off of work for our HM since we are leaving on sunday for aruba.....

so what i am saying is do what you want - weigh out the pros and cons - and trust me, no matter how conveinent you think your wedding date is people you expected to be there will decline and people you haven't seen in ages will accept....its crazy the way the guest list works itself out....

good luck!

Re: Saturday after thanksgiving

My brother got married the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it was awesome! Everyone was home because of the holidays (including his old high school friends and all our cousins) so it was perfect!

We understood that people who lived far away couldn't make it since they wanted to be with their family but for those local people and those whose families lived close by were all there. It was really fun.

I am getting married the night after thanksgiving (Friday). We just did our final count and we have 175 Yes and only 22 No.
The best thing to do is send out STD's about one year prior.
Also, Holiday weekends tend to be a little cheaper so you will probably get a good deal.

good luck planning!

ditto date twin! I heard said that people may be short on money that time of year & not give gifts, but I disagree. If people are preparing to come to the wedding, then they know to keep some extra money aside for a gift (at least that's what I would do). And no matter what time of year, the people who WANT to be there, will be there!

Plus - when me & FH realized that we were going to have to have it during Winter Season I was a LITTLE disappointed. That's why I decided that if we were going to have this Winter Wedding, it better at least be a CHRISTMAS Winter Wedding!!!
