anyone have a good sausage and peppers recipe? All the ones I have come accross tell me I have to brown the sausage in one pan then fry the onions and peppers and then bake it all. Can't I just throw all the ingredients into a baking dish and pop it in the oven???

Re: Sausage and Peppers
My mom always does it in one pan...
sausage on the bottom of baking dish, cover it in cut up peppers and onion. Cover that with a can of tomato sauce and whatever spices you want (she uses a little garlic powder and oregano) The only thing is that it takes at least an hour and a half to two hours. You don't have to do much though...leave it in there to let everything cook together and stir once in awhile.
(i made a complicated recipe a few weeks ago b/c DH love sausage and peppers and we both like my moms better)

I'd brown the sausage first in an oven safe pan. Once it's brown on the outside, add sliced peppers and onions and put it in the oven to bake for about 20 minutes, until the peppers are firm but tender.
That's the easy way I do it.

I've made it like that & it comes out really well. Or I cook sausages on the BBQ and in a deep frying pan I cook peppers & onions. Then I add the sausage & cook for like 10 min.
Both ways are good & easy.

I just sautee everything in a skillet .. takes about 20-30 minutes .. quicker if I cut up the sausage. I generally don't have time to wait for something to cook for more than 30-40 minutes.

I put it all in the same pot.
I put sauce, onions, peppers, S+P, garlic powder, and the cut up pieces of hot italian sausage in the pot.
Cover and cook until sausage is done (about 30-45 minutes).
Yum

Re: Sausage and Peppers
We have just recently started doing it all on the BBQ - we BBQ the sausages and cut up the peppers and onions, spray some tin foil with Pam and seal the foil w/peppers and onions in it and put it on the top rack of the BBQ - then we slice the peppers in half and put on a hoagie roll.....so much easier, less to clean up, and tastes GREAT!

Here's how I do mine:
SAUSAGE AND PEPPERS
I usually buy the hot sausage brand. First, I boil the sausage in a small pot, since I freeze my sausage after I buy it. When thats done, I cut the sausage in slices and put them in a saute pan with oil. I add lots of sliced onions, sliced red peppers, sliced green peppers and sliced yellow peppers. Sprinkle some salt over everything. Then I cover the saute pan and let everything saute together. The sausage browns nicely like this. This usually takes me less then a half hour. When its done, its SOOO tasty!
Enjoy!

Yes, there is a way you can do it all in one baking pan. I slice up my peppers, onions and add chunks of potatoes, I slice up my sausage - you can slice them into one inch pieces-vertically or slice in half horizontally, throw everything into a baking pan, season with pepper, garlic powder, oregano or parsley, and some paprika for color or cayenne powder if you want it spicy hot. pour some olive oil about two or three tablespoons, mix everything up in the pan and cover with aluminum foil and bake in the oven covered for about an hour at 375, then uncover it for about 20 extra minutes.
