My wedding is September 20, 2003. It is on the North Fork and accommodations are limited out there. I know that normally save the date cards are mailed 6 months prior, but I am worried then that there won't be available places for my guests to stay. If I send the STD's within the month, is it too soon, especially since the holidays are coming up. Thanks for your help!!

Re: Save the Date
Several girls on the board have said that they were going to do STD'S as christmas cards, or in their Christmas cards ... Is this something that works for you?

I don't think that is too soon and especially not if you think that there will be limited space. Go for it!

Re: Save the Date
We're doing our STD's with our Xmas cards, which is 11 months prior. I think it's a great idea - I would feel akward sending them on their own.

Re: Save the Date
What kind of STDs are you doing with Christmas cards? I wasn't going to send them but that sounds like a good idea (especially since my wedding =is on Labor day weekend)

Re: Save the Date
My plan is to send out regular Xmas cards and just put the STD's in with them. The STD is self-explanatory, but I was going to sign the Xmas card something like 'see you soon' as an indirect reference to the STD. I haven't gotten it 100% figured out yet!

Re: Save the Date
A great idea is to make your std a magnet, this way, it goes right onto the FRIDGE! I did mine just as abbreviated invites
Our first line was 'This holiday season marks a special event ....' we included hotel & reception info. w/the line 'invitation to follow' as the last line. Don't stress it too much ... your guests will be happy that you send them the info far enough in advance so that travel plans could be made!

Re: Save the Date
Where is your wedding on the North Fork? There is a great little hotel called the Blue Dolphin. It has 30 rooms and the owners are fantastic. They give you the bridal suite for free if your guests book all the rooms and they have a limo that will take your guests places for 5$ per person. But depending on where your wedding is, it may be too far away.

Re: Save the Date
If you are worried about the accomodations I would send them out now. You could include a note saying that accomodations are limited so book early!

Re: Save the Date
I'm getting married on the same day as you. The majority of my guests are out of state and I just recently got a deal by blocking off a lot of rooms at the Hilton, so I'm mailing my STDs within the month. I figure I know the info so I might as well share it. I'm sending save the dates this month and a whole packet of info in January with hotel info and brochures for things to do on LI.
