Save the date cards

My fianace and I had to book our wedding now for a 2002 wedding. Because we were extremely limited on when we could get married and wanted our first choice of dates, we booked early.

What is everyone's opinion about sending out "save the date" cards? Has anyone done this; when is an appropriate time to do so? Any info would be helpful. Thank you and good luck to everyone!

Today we pause to reflect upon those who have shaped our character, molded our spirits and touched our hearts. May the lighting of this candle be a reminder of the memories we have shared, a representation of the everlasting impact you have made upon our lives.

Save the date cards

Save the date cards are usually sent out if you have a number of out of town guests and/or if your wedding is on a holiday weekend. This just let's people know of your wedding date and gives them time to make travel arrangements/book hotels, etc... They are typically sent out four to six months before your wedding date but you can send them out whenever you feel it is most comfortable.

Save the date cards

Stephanie,

I'm looking to send out save the date cards for my holiday weekend wedding. Do you sell them pre-made? Do you have any helpful phrases that you can include in a homemade card?

Save the date cards

I do agree w/Stephanie - if its on a holiday weekend or you have many of out of town guests (meaning too many to call personally), then you should send them. Otherwise, I'd suggest not sending them at all.

I realize the overwhelming desire to run to the nearest mountain top (or post office) and let the whole world know you've finally decided upon a date to start your life together. I went through the same thing.....but 'save the date' cards make me think of golf & charity events. The only time I've ever received one has been for golf outings and when people want me to donate money (for work)...so I naturally associate them with large impersonal functions - whereas your wedding is one of the most intimate events a person will ever be invited to attend! If it is not on a holiday weekend and you can spend a sunday calling the handful of out of towners, then I suggest making a phone call.

Again - it DOES serve an important function if your event is on a holiday weekend....every wedding is unique.

Save the date cards

We are getting married in October this year and we just sent out save the date cards to our out of town guests. Our friend - a graphic artist - made it and we made copies on card stock at Kinko's. It's a card that shows a little funny story about how we got engaged on the front and what everyone needs to know about traveling, phone numbers etc. on the back. We reserved a block of rooms for our guests at a good rate so we put han info on there too.

I think it's a little too early for a 2002 wedding unless it's a holiday weekend. I think a year in advance is good. But I do think it's a very nice touch for out of town guests when you do it. We got a lot of great feedback from the guests we sent them to.

Just wanted to know if anyone knows when the next 25% off sale at Michael's craft store is...

I sent my save the date cards out in November 99, for our May 27th wedding. I got some wording from the knot chat rooms, and printed them on wedding paper from Kinko's.

I would say if you plan on sending them, don't do it until 2001. Most people will lose them and they don't have calendars to save the date. It may be a waste of money to even do them at all, because by the year of your wedding, from word of mouth most people will know when it is. This is just my opinion.

But in Villa's defense: I just booked my wedding there for 2002 and the banquet manager I dealt w/ Ken, was wonderful. I first went to see him in Nov. '99 at which time he quoted me a price of a little over $100 guarenteeing a bit over 200 for a Sat night in June 2002. When my finance and I went back there last Friday, he was very accomodating. He was pleased that we had taken our time and checked out other places. Both of our visits lasted over an hour and he was very helpful and informative.

They dont' mess around at Villa. They know what they can get for their hall and they don't "sweeten the deal". Ken was very upfront with us that what he was offereing us was the bottomline with little room to negotitiate. I respected him for his honesty and candor.
