We are getting married in May (9 months ). It is Saturday night during Memorial Day weekend. Since I know alot of people travel then, we are sending our invitations out 3 months in advance (6 months from now) and we are also doing Save-the-Date letters.
Question: When should we send out the letters?

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
I'm getting married July 4th and I'm sending save the date magnets out with our Christmas cards.
I plan on sending invitations out early too. 3 months sounds good.
I guess 6 months for STDs?

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
My wedding is a week after yours (5/31) I am sending my STDs out no later than December 1st, before Christmas and the New Year. I am sending my invitations out right after Valentine's day.

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
We're sending ours out in late november along with a christmas card for an april 26 wedding. This may be a little late, but we need to conserve money and have only one mailing!

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
We are actually sending out ours within the next week and our wedding is beginning of May, I really just wanted to get it out as soon as possible(one less thing to worry about).

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
its just something you send out to remind or notify people to save the date of your wedding. you send it out 6-8 months in advance so they 'save the date' I am not doing these though.

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
I'm doing it b/c I think it's also a good way to announce our engagement. I was going to do something like this:'
Make a postcard type card, and on the top in a pretty cursive font, put 'We're Engaged !!!!' Underneath it would be a picture of us holding hands with the ring sparkling of course. Undrneath the picture would say in a bolder print, 'Save the Date - May 31, 2003' Then I would include a letter with all information like hotels, registry . . .
What do you think?

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
I was planning on it, because if it's not 'etiquette' to put it in the invitation, where else would you? I thought since STDs are more casual, that would be a good spot.
Plus, hopefully by the end of September, we'll have our 'wedsite' up and that will give them all the info, and we may just refer them to the site.

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
Our Save-the-Date letters are an actual letter. I found really cute wedding paper at OfficeMax and am printing them myself on that. Our letter includes: - hotel information - events going on that weekend (including a brunch my mom is hosting on Sunday after our Saturday night wedding) - things to do in the area (including beaches and shopping)
But we are getting married on Memorial Day weekend and we have alot of guest traveling far to come so we figured that they could make a mini-vacation out of it and wanted to provide them with as much info as possible to that end.
STD can also be very short and to the point: 'We're getting married on this date. We hope you can come.'
We are not putting our registry info on the letter. I think most people who want to get you a gift will come out and ask either you or someone close to you who knows that info. I don't like to put it in writing other than on our website.
Hope this helps.

Re: Save-the Date letter...when?
I'm getting married next Labor Day weekend (it will be exactly a year this Friday)!! I'm planning on sending STD in January or February. I don't think it's a good idea to include where you're registered on STDs. It makes it seem like you're asking for gifts. I would include it on your website though.
