Save the date questions

Save the date questions

Hey Girls...

I guess I just need an opinion....how many of you did STD? If so, was the overall outcome of YES RSVP's greater since they knew of the date in advance?

We are trying to figure out if we should get STD or not....My sister got them for her wedding a few years ago, but that was because she got married Thanksgiving weekend and wanted to make sure people didn't plan a vacation or anything....

If so, how far in advance do you send them? We are getting married next October and I guess if we do order them, we should start looking now, right?

Suggestions?

Thanks ladies!

I plan to send them out at Christmas time and i'm getting married the month before you.

I would have sent them sooner but FH and I aren't taking our e-pics until October.

I did STD magnets just for the fun of it, and we sent them out 9 months in advance. I really don't think it made much of a difference. The only people who really hold the date are close relatives and very good friends.

People who want to come, will come.

My mother claims Peggy Post says save the dates go out 6 months before, so that's when ours went.

In my opinion, once you know the date, send them, at least to your A list. Keep in mind, that people you are close to now you might not be then. There are already 2 people on our list that I probably would not invite, except that we already sent them save the dates, so we have to.

I think that if you have a lot of OOT or you´re close to a holiday it´s a must!! Other then that its just a cute idea. I designed my own and am printingthem on magnet sheets. I´m having them sent out with my Bridal Shower invites (not having an engamenet party and the bridal shower is in oct b.c that´s when I´ll be in NY) to save on postage. (im on a tight budget!)

We're doing save the dates because I found really cute ones and we're hoping more people will be likely to come. We're worried about meeting our minimum so it might help if people know in advance!

I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN!! I am going to kill FH...when we went to sign the contract at NRC, he was like 'OH we can guarantee 250'...thank g-d we said 225....I am guessing we will have that many but for some reason I started thinking of it and I was nervous that we may be slightly under and his big mouth guaranteed that many!! I am almost positive we might hit that number, and go over, but it is just easier to know for SURE you will meet it...I think I would have felt better with 200 even though I am sure we will make the 225....I think I am being paranoid! Maybe the STD will help!

Thanks ladies for all of your advice!

I plan on sending STDs to only those people I really want to be there. My FH's family is huge! I'm talking 150 from his side alone! I am counting on people not coming. For some reason I'm the only one concerned about our budget!

Re: Save the date questions

Im sending my save the dates out in september so a year prior to the wedding. Originally we were just going to send them to close people who we knew were coming and who were invited, but then family insisted we send to all the OOT guests so they had a heads up to the date and arranging travel needs. I think it made sense. We're hoping that they will know far enough in advnace that they will come to the wedding.

I think STDs are a nice idea especially if your wedding is on a sunday or near a holiday. We are sending them out 11 months in advance since our wedding is the day after New Years , its a sunday and theres tons of OOTers. It definitely lets ppl know in advance and may help you reach your minimum. Like someone else said, they people that want to come will be there.

We sent out STD's in Feb or March. I don't know if it will make a huge difference but we thought it was a nice touch.
