So I am having my wedding in July of 2006. Is it necessary to send out Save The Date? What does everybody think? Your feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mariah

Re: Save The Dates
I've decided not to do Save the Dates. Most of my family already knows the date so why even do it.

Re: Save The Dates
I sent mine out bc I wanted to let people to make sure they are around...Our wedding is 2 weeks prior to Easter next year, so I want to make sure people are available...
In your case, you are getting married in the summer months, the weekend after July 4th...I would definately send them out considering people make the 4th a vacation week...

Re: Save The Dates
A large portion of our guests are out of town, so we decided we will send them. I just ordered them today actually

Re: Save The Dates
I am sending them out to family (as a keepsake) and also all of the out of town guests so that they can hopefully plan accordingly.
Save the dates aren't 'necessary' but they can't hurt, especially since you are getting married so close to July 4th.

Re: Save The Dates
I am getting married the Thursday before 4th of July 'weekend' (the 4th is on the TUes after my wedding. We decided to send STD's to OOT friends and family along with hotel info (not sendg them until just after 4th of July THIS year).
Is it necessary? No, but I think it will be helpful in notifying our guests.

Re: Save The Dates
We sent them out to everyone even tho our close family already knew. They were really intended for those relatives that we never see other than weddings and funerals. Plus we used it to announce our change of address since we moved in together. Really nicely we did it inexpensively by making them on the computer and then printing them on pretty paper. It was so easy and didn't cost much!

Re: Save The Dates
We are for two reasons: half of our guests are out of towners and we're going to send hotel information as well as rental car information along with the save the date. Secondly, we're getting married a holiday weekend and I want to reserve people. Are they necessary? No. But it's a nice way to reserve people and have people put your wedding date on their calendar.

I agree. It is also a way of passing on our wedding website....which FH has YET to finish.

We are doing them b/c its a holiday weekend. They are totally not necessary, just if its a big weekend in my opinion. Is yours July 4th weekend?

Re: Save The Dates
We just ordered our STD magnets. We are getting married the day before the the fourth of July and want everyone to be available. It is also during the summer which is when most people take vacations.

Re: Save The Dates
Our wedding date is July 3 so we decided to send out STDs for our out of town guests. That way, they won't plan personal getaways.

Re: Save The Dates
We are doing STDs because we are getting married on the weekend preceding President's Day/Week when many families go on vacation.
