How far in advance do you send out Save the dates?

As soon as you know your wedding date! The sooner the better, especially for people needing to fly in and make travel arrangements. And also it holds the date so that if someone is invited to another event that same day, they already knew about your wedding first!


We sent our save-the-dates as soon as we had the reception place booked - which was 9 months before the wedding.

I plan on sending them around 8-9 mos in advance but that's b/c my wedding is the friday of memorial day weekend. I think 6 mos is fine otherwise.

I sent mine in Jan08 9 months before... Most of my guests had to make travel arraingements from out of state and out of country so I wanted to give them a longer heads up. I had them ready to send in Nov 07 but waited... i had a paranoia about them getting lost in the holiday mail rush

my wedding is in january '09. i sent out overseas yesterday and the rest should be going out tomorrow. i'm probably a little late, but whatever. it took me a while to decide whether or not to even do them.

One of the key items to Save the Dates is the hotel information. Some hotels won't even let you hold a block of rooms more than a year in advance.

I am antsy because I have some great STD ideas - but my sister is getting married in May '09 and hasn't even sent hers out.

I'm getting married on Memorial Day weekend and I'm still trying to get addresses I guess by the time I'm done it'll be about 10 months before.

I personally think 6-9 months is good and a little earlier if it's a holiday weekend.

I'm getting married Memorial Day weekend also and I just sent mine out last week - but I totally hear you with getting addresses. Luckily FH's cousins wedding was in Nov, so his aunt gave us her whole list for the family, and I just literally stalked everyone else till it was complete. You'll get there!!

I sent mine about 7 months in advance because that's when we booked it. I just got one this month from a friend for a June 09 wedding. If I could have I would have done a year because then you know all the people you want to be there have as much advance notice as possible.

I sent them out in March and I am getting married in October. I would have sent them out sooner but I was a slacker.. Do it as early as possible.

9-12 months prior is a good idea, most people make vacation plans about 6 months prior

our wedding is January of 2010, and we will be sending them out this January. Our wedding is during MLK weekend, so people need time to plan

even though we set our date like 14 months in advance, we are sending out our save the dates around 8-9 months before the invites go out.

I do not think there is any rule of when to send them- I am planning to send mine out next week for my August 09 wedding. I used vistaprint to print the STD they were really inexpensive and they came out beautiful. FYI the company has many bad reviews both on LIW and on the web BUT the prices are really good...$22 for 100.

No real set rules but like Peggie pointed out amny people make vacation plans as early as 6 months in advance so its best if you are having a wedding around a high time (Spring through Early fall) then you give fair warning. We got married in the summerso we gave a good amount of notice.
