Save the dates and hotel blocks

So I'm seeing a lot of posts on here with Save the Dates and the hotel info being on them.


I am getting married Dec. 2014 and plan on sending out my STD's Sept/October 2013. I have A LOT of OOT family as well as family out of the country.

Should I have my hotel block done and send them the info regarding it before I send out my STDs?

I'm getting married 12 days before Christmas so I imagine rates and travel prices will be increased so I want to try to get the best rate I can.


Thoughts? Suggestions? Any hotels in the Sayville area anyone wants to recommend? Preferably with a shuttle service??

I did. Most of my family booked at that time. It definitely doesn't hurt. I then included it in the invite as well. Some ppl like planning early while others will wait till the last minute.

Hmm. We have a decent amount of OOT guests and we publicized our website on Facebook and via email so family members had access to all that information prior to sending out the STD. We just ordered our STDs and including the website link on there as well so guest will have it accessible to checking frequently which again has all of our hotel information.

In regards to getting a hotel block, it is definitely something I would recommend BUT most hotels don't let you block until a year out so you might have to wait until this December. I would suggest asking your venue. They may have a list of hotels that they work with. Our venue works with a hotel that actually gave us a free night. Good luck!

Thanks ladies! When I go to drop off the 2nd deposit at my venue in april I'll ask him for a list and start looking!


I'd rather have as much done earlier rather than later. I want to be able to enjoy next year and not rush or feel too crazy!

The earlier the better! FH & I started immediately and had all of our major vendors booked probably within a few months of being engaged. Not only did we get 2012 pricing but the stress won't be so prominent worrying about all that stuff.

I booked my venue in the 2nd week of January of 2013 and he STILL gave me 2012 pricing!! We locked in at the right time!! I've already got my major vendors done: venue, DJ, photographer, florist.

People are like 'Wow that was fast' and I'm like... 'uhm. I'm getting married on a Saturday night in December where the date is consecutive numbers. I'm not losing what I want because I lollygagged.'

My friend that got married at your hall did a hotel block at Hilton Garden Inn on Vets Hwy in Ronkonkoma. The Holiday Inn is right there too.

12-13-14 Love it!!!
I blocked the hotel before I sent out the STD and then put the hotel info in the STD. I will also be including it in the invitation. I had to wait till I was 11 months out to do my hotel block though so Im not sure if you can do it yet.

I figured I'd start looking at hotels around September. I'll see if they'll let me book. If they won't... I guess I'll do a wedding website (I'll make FH set that up since he's the computer nerd ) and put the link for that on the STDs and let the OOT-ers know that all hotel info will be available on the website once we have it.


And thanks!! We love our date too. We did it purposely. We're both terrible with remember dates and now FH and I will NEVER forget it! Lucky for us it falls on a saturday for us!
