I was planning on sending the STD's just after the new year (people buy new calendars, right?) and now that I am hearing people send them a year in advance, I am second guessing.
My question: How far in advance did you send STD's??
Point to keep in mind: My wedding is a destination one, and no one is from LI. Only about 10% of people are flying, but everyone else will be driving.
WHEN WOULD YOU SEND THEM?
THank you!!!

Re: Save the Dates: How far in advance?
I would send them either in Nocvember before the holiday rush - or right after the holidays in early january
Another idea is to send the save the dates in november and a letter with more information in january so everyone can book the hotel and figure out the schedule of things going on

I am also practically having a destination wedding. Plus, mine is on a holiday weekend. We sent our STDs about 10 months in advance. If I were you, I would shoot for early November at the latest.

I believe the standard is 9 - 12 months ahead of the date. I sent mine in May.

Re: Save the Dates: How far in advance?
I am getting married on a holiday weekend next summer, so we are sending them out this week. We have a lot of family in Ireland, and we wanted to give them plenty of time to plan their trips. We also have a lot of family that likes to plan their 4th of July early, so I figured no harm in sending them soon. I am all for the sooner the better. I was originally going to send them around Christmas time, but someone made a good point to me that they can get lost or overlooked very easily that time of year with the influx of holiday cards and what not.

Re: Save the Dates: How far in advance?
If people are out of state or especially if it is a destination wedding people will have to plan their vacation time / budget their money more than they would have to it was a local wedding. I just sent mine out because we have a lot of out of state guests.

dita531 - yours are gorgeous...they set me off to post this thread!
I think you are smart to do it now. I don't even have the guest list finilized, so I will have to start laying down the law with mom and FMIL to get me finilized lists by next month so I can start the STD's!
Tell me again, did you make yours?
