Re: Save the Pledge of Allegiance
I love this debate and I don't think there's anything wrong with it - mainly because people are stating their differing opinions intelligently and coherently. It's when the debate degenerates into name calling and near-hysteria that it gets unpleasant. I myself can become guilty of that, especially when the topic involves policework (like last week).
I think, if there is anything good to say about war in general (and this war in particular), it's that it forces people to re-examine their consciences, their faiths, their beliefs about right and wrong, and their patriotism. Just like with faith, I think questioning the tenets one holds dear (patriotism etc) makes that tenet stronger.

Re: Save the Pledge of Allegiance
I can read in an earlier post that is was put there in 1954, however, god was a major factor in the beliefs of those men who started this country. That is what I meant by the heritage of this country. I am just not offended by it. I really could care less, seriously, they are two words and not enough for me to get myself in a huff and puff. Also, if people are going to get in a tizzy about it, shouldn't you also include batteling against the american dollar? To me the fight would be one in the same, if you can't say under god, can you still spend money? Or do you just use a card with the visa/mc symbol?
Edited to add: 'if it infringes on one American's right...isn't that enough to look seriously into something?' If I spent all my time looking into everything and anything that infinged on one American's right...and so did you, yabb, do you think we would have any time to do anything else with our lives?

Re: Save the Pledge of Allegiance
Oh boy, I guess I made a mistake... I guess debate was the wrong word to use.
See, this is why I should stay out of these threads.
Sorry ladies

Re: Save the Pledge of Allegiance
Hey no need to apologize, I think your post was completly fine!
i think its fabulous that we can debate...I have no problem with people who have different opinions...an I hope people have no problem with me for mine...
as for the moeny...true...I don't agree with 'in god we trust' on it...however this is a thread about the pledge...
of course I cannot not spend money...(I would actually like my employer to give me more), but since the pledge is up for debate (ie. the 9th district court) I will focus more energy on that...one battle at a time...since I cannot (like you say) fight all battles...
I just wanted to show people that maybe there is a reason that people are trying to 'save' the pledge...and what the reasons are...
I just seriously have a problem with those two words...and I hope that they are taken out...so that the pledge remains...
