Saving for the Wedding

Saving for the Wedding

Hi Ladies,

If you are saving for the wedding, I wanted to know what some of your ladies are doing to save for the wedding?

I just started selling some things on eBay (things my grandpa had. I don't have any sentimental value to them and my grandpa was not a nice man. I'm also going to sell some old clothes I don't need anymore.) I plan to enter some contests for my writing. I'm considering a holiday job as well as my full time job.

So what are you ladies doing?

Im considering going back to bartending and getting a second job for Sat/Sundays's. That mean's I'd be working 7 days a week but weddings are expensive! lol.

So far we haven't done anything besides save what we usually save every month. My fiancé is considering going back to bartending though a few nights a week for some extra money.

FH works all the over time he can. Other than that, we're just putting away whatever we can each paycheck.

I'm starting a part time job next week! I'll be working at an after school care program for kindergarten/first graders. It's going to be a big commitment because I am also trying to finish my experiments and dissertation this semester and I am TAing an undergraduate class! Luckily the program is only about 3 hours every afternoon M-F, so it shouldn't be too bad! I won't be making much but every penny will help!

FH is working two jobs right now (one full time and one per-diem) and going to school full time to get his MBA. Ontop of that now that school is starting, he'll start tutoring again (if anybody knows anyone who needs a fab (and might I add sexy) math tutor grade 5-12 in the Commack/east Northport area let me know!! $65/hour).

I've been thinking about getting a second job but babysitting is so on and off and such amazing money that I'd hate to have to start turning people down. It's just unreliable.

ETA: FH thinks I should start selling myself on the street corner to pay for all the over budget stuff we've booked ;P

I think I should start working at some of these venues on the weekends...LOL!!!

We have a joint bank account specifically for wedding funds. I set up a direct deposit so that some money goes into the account each paycheck. Its better than physically having the money and telling myself I'll deposit it… because that doesn't always end up happening… Oops…

We recently deposited about $500 worth of change that my fiancé still had in a closet at his parents house!

Also trying to get overtime and doing side jobs whenever we can.

We moved in with FHs parents to save...it's been rough, but we are finally done saving and getting an apartment this weekend! Woo hoo lol

Since I'm finally done with school I started a job right away working full time. Full time for it is considered 32 hours but lately I've been working 40 hours since they have been busy for some extra money each week. FH does a lot of overtime and luckily makes double time on Sundays so he's been doing lots of Sundays. Unfortunately football season is coming so I doubt he will continue with the Sundays. We also try to save our change and that goes into our 'wedding fund' along with returning cans and bottles. I know it sounds silly but every little bit helps (especially two years of doing it before the wedding)

This. My FH gets a ton of overtime especially in the winter so we are just doing the same as above. Luckily we both have some savings as well.

At the start of the year we started one of those, 52 weeks of savings things, where you put in $1 on week 1, $2 on week 2, etc. Besides that we also started really watching our spending and putting aside as much from our pay as possible.

We put aside a certain amount each month in a joint bank account. I also took a per diem job on the side.

We have been taking a few hundred from each paycheck and putting it into a savings account. We are homebodies, so we have been saving a lot by not going out as much as people want us to. I was thinking of getting a babysitting job, but I just landed a full time job and don't know if I will have the time. FH also gets a lot of overtime during the winter, so that will help.

We're each putting some money into a joint account each month. Working whatever overtime we both can get (FH worked an extra 80 hours this month. We're also eating out a lot less, not doing the movies and bar things, and when I grocery shop I look for coupons and sales. If a meal is more than $10 to make, we aren't having it.

Have you seen.that $1a week thing on fb? Week one $1 week two $2 week three $3 increasing by $1 every week till you hit the last week of the year and that week.is $52. I think you save close to $2000 that way......well we needed way more than that so we spent alot of time doing math to figure out what would be best. We each put $200 a week in. So $400 a week total! We will have about $20k by December!! It's hard some times but we r so glad we decided todo it!! We have 7 wweddings between December this year and September next year including ours!! We will need it!!

FH has been working a lot of overtime and I do as well with every chance I get. We also have been cutting back on going out so I have no problem hosting at our place. Plus I put money away into savings with every paycheck. But with 2 weddings and engagement coming in September and October we are definitely cutting back on our spending. Luckily I have already purchased a lot of extras the beginning of the year so now it's just the odds and ends (and FH is trying to have me cut back on that. Lol the odds and ends that is but leave it to me to always find the coupons. Hahaha)

I just landed a full time job so that is going to help but we opened up a joint savings account and will be putting money in there from each paycheck. My fiancé has been going in for a lot of overtime and each overtime check he receives he puts it right into our joint account. We are trying to cut down on spending and be more conscious of what we do. Being that my wedding is two years away I am confident that we will have enough plus more.

I'm considering this. I did the math and even if we put in $2.50 a day up until the wedding, that's about $1300. I just have to go the bank to set it up.

I would just like to add, anyone looking for babysitting jobs, I'm always looking for a babysitter so... Lets make it work! LOL!
