Saving for the Wedding

Original post by okellies

Hi Ladies,

If you are saving for the wedding, I wanted to know what some of your ladies are doing to save for the wedding?

I just started selling some things on eBay (things my grandpa had. I don't have any sentimental value to them and my grandpa was not a nice man. I'm also going to sell some old clothes I don't need anymore.) I plan to enter some contests for my writing. I'm considering a holiday job as well as my full time job.

So what are you ladies doing?

Saving for the Wedding

We put about $1,000 a month away right now. But we are moving soon so hopefully we will be able to save some money once we move because our rent will be significantly less. As much as we save and try to limit going out - it really seems like we won't hit what we really need. It is such a huge stressor in this whole planning process. FH promises that as soon as October hits and we are year out we will be hermits and never leave the house haha.

I'm a graphic designer at Stony Brook by day, and I'm trying very hard to build up my etsy shop ( https://www.etsy.com/shop/keydesignbykasey) and freelance clients when I'm not at my 9-5 (Okay, even there too!). I'm also taking 20% of each paycheck and direct depositing into savings. FH actually loses money every month paying for my Tiffany e-ring and our new mortgage, so I'm trying to pick up any slack and he's working all the overtime he can get. :/

If any of you need menus, invitations for bridal showers, bachelorette parties etc, please reach out! I worked in stationery for two years and love that field (It's my goal to open up my own event planning mecca one day!)

I work full time but I also started an Etsy shop in Feb of 2014.. it blew up quicker than I ever imagined but it's been a LOT of hard work and time. With the extra income, I've been able to pay off all of my credit cards as well as put a huge chunk of money in my savings every week. My father is paying for most of it, but I have taken some responsibilities from him since I can afford it.. FH is working on paying down his debt (I was unemployed for a year and he carried us so we wracked up credit card debt) but he is helping with what he can

Wow, your stuff is great! I love the ice coffee type containers. Such a cute idea for the morning of the wedding or bachelorette party! :)

I actually DO need menus! I kind of want them to match my invitations, but I'm not happy with the matching menu at Zazzle.

Saving for the Wedding

We moved out of our apartment and moved into my mom's house to save money. At the moment we were so bummed that we wouldn't be living alone anymore, but at the end it will all work out and help us save so much more!

Right now we are both trying to put at least $250 a month into a joint savings account. My parents are paying for the venue so that's a huge chunk that we don't need to worry about. We also live at my parents house and aren't planning on moving out until a few months before the wedding to save a ton of money (unless we have to move because of FH's job, but we're planning on that not happening for another 6 months).
