dont go shopping alot...Just go for necessary things like work clothes you may need and things like that...There are alot of things people think they NEED to have but in reality you don't. You will be perfectly fine without it

eating out at restaurants. you'd be surprised at how much $$ that can save....even when you 'dollar menu' it, it can add up. but definitely cut out as much eating out for a 'few drinks and appetizers'

This was a change for me too - I've:
- only get my nails filled 1x a month
- buy almost all my food @ the supermarket
- stopped going out for happy hour (unless I was with friends who always pay )
- stopped the little purchases, the things that add up quickly without realizing it

So far it's working out really well.... it's AMAZING how much $ I was just throwing away.

Of course my social life has taken a hit, but I'm on LIW all the time and that doesn't cost anything at all!

you know what i do so i dont worry about this constantly and wondering should i spend money on that or not...I made a budget for myself, how much i need to put away each month...so i put that away and also take out month expenses, whatever im left with im free to spend however i want...And let me tell you i dont even leave like a whole lot left to do whatever with and alot of times now i end up putting it towards our savings bc now im used to not splurging like crazy and will not feel the need to do so...THink it will be more useful towards our savings

I have taken $$$ out of my paycheck and put it directly in the wedding fund as soon as I get paid....that way my acct balance is small and I don't think I 'have $$' in the bank...it has really helped believe it or not!

Before the wedding I used to get mini-massages for like $10 once a week or every two weeks.

Man, I could use one right now....

The next one will be on our hm!

Re: saving money

I bring breakfast & lunch from home
Do my nails myself at home
No unnecessary drivin (gas is getting expensive again)
No annual weeklong cruise vacation
No seasonal or just because shopping
Decreased X-Mas budget
Starbucks only once a week

Is there anything else left?

I don't hang out with my friends as much (they do allot of trips, happy hours, eating out, & non-cost cutting things). But also they are not saving for a wedding. No pain no gain

Re: saving money

joined netflix so instead of going out to eat or to the movies we just stay in and watch a movie and steal our mom's dinners

i stopped getting my nails done - but i just got them done again for e pics and i will be so sad to take them off again!

no annual summer shopping - but i will need to get some stuff for the HM

no coffee at work - i drink green tea before i leave the house

Special K bars at work - instead of buying snacks

bag lunch

no birthday/ christmas presents this year - just going out to dinner for those events . . . they will fall about two weeks before the wedding

no easter presents for the kids this year. . . also cut back on christmas presents - we used to spend about $300-$400 on each kid but this year we got them some clothes. . .they were soooo upset - oh well.

trying to work some OT but its tough!

Re: saving money

deff start a money market acct. with a high interest rate..

now we just transfer what we can afford from each paycheck and get some interest aswell!!

for birthdays, holidays - ask for cash :) save ALL spare change and then cash it in for spending money on the honeymoon...

FH and I do this for vacations and it always adds up to hundreds over some time

LUCKILY at work we have our own chef and the company pays for that and our lunch is free so that saves me...But i pay alot in transportation a day, i take the LIRR, NYC MTA and the PATH, So that adds up.

And yeah we cut down alot on going out to eat, we used to go a couple times a week and not like that now lol

Re: saving money

With my job I joined a credit union and before I even see my money a certian amount is taken out an dput into a savings account. I have been doing this for years. It's basically a forced savings. And it's good cause then when you want to take money out it's kinda a pain cause then you have to send a letter with the amount you want and everything and they send you a check. So it's really good. Cause you basically don't see the money an dit's saved for you automatically. I love it!!
