Saving money vs going out

Original post by Val

What have you and FH been doing for fun while still saving for the wedding. Everything is so expensive. It's over $20 just to go see a movie. I feel like I don't go out anymore and it's making me crazy!! Am I the only one with this problem?

Not only not going out with him, but when my friends are going out for dinner and drinks I hesitate as does he because we will skimp on what we do so we feel guilty spending it with other people.

Those are good ideas though. I'll try some

we stay home and cook. we watch movies that we have at home if we feel like doing something special.

can you tell we're a super exciting couple? =0P j/k we just don't have the money.

eta: we used to do more when we were in nyc (even free things), but there's nothing to do here, so we stay in.

I realized trying to save every penny and put it towards the wedding is frustratiing dealing with thte stresses of everyday life you need some time to go out and enjoy me and FH go out or try to do something at least every weekend but we did give up our vacations until after the wedding

We used to always go out...go out to eat, go out with friends, go out to the movies, ect. Now with the wedding and having our first place, I feel like we never go out. We have had to learn to cook and we bring lunch to work now to save money and I even find myself clipping coupons out. We also have made good use of our new sofa by snuggling up and watching one of the numerous movie channels that we now pay a fortune for every month (gotta love Cablevision). We used to save up all year to go on a cruise every January, not that is out of the question. I sometimes have to remind myself that it will all be worth it in the end.

I figure that once you make any form of life altering decisions that you have to sacrifice something. If its a wedding sacrificing (going out every weekend is out) same thing when you have a child.. It's just up to the person and FH as to what you're going to sacrifice.

we've found so many freebie things to do. Bike riding, going for long walks. Pot luck suppers with other couples. Drop in on my parents there's always food and people over there. Central Park
walk ,around the village. Street fairs. The less you want to spend the more creative you become.
