and since I have never rented, nor has FH, we have no idea if we are getting a good price for what is being offered?
The apartment is the upstairs of a cape, its not dormered in the front, just the back, so it has those little triangle window things, one in the LR and one in the bedroom. Wood floors in the LR and hallway. Bathroom is not new new, but it looks like it was re-done a few years ago and it is VERY VERY clean (NO BLACK GROUT - THANK GD).......full bath and shower combo thing, new vanity and toilet. Bedroom is pretty long, looks like it would fit a queen bed, a nightstand, dresser and it has a really deep closet. Next to the bedroom is a really deeeeeep closet for storage.
When you walk up, LR is to the left, its not tremendous by any means, but it seems like it could fit a couch and a table, with tv stand. then off the LR is the kitchen.......not big big but not tiny. FULL size appliances (I have seen some that have those half stoves and small refrigerators)...you could fit a round table in the kitchen that could prob fit 4 people. 2 windows so its really bright and airy.
1200 + electric. Has central air so we pay for it based on what we use. Everything else (cable, internet, gas, water, etc) is paid for.....
is this a good deal? Its in the REALLY nice part of Franklin Square. We saw 2 after that I left crying, they were disgusting and in a not so nice area. I guess I just feel that since its sloped in the front part of the home/apt, we loose a lot of space.
Do we just take this one? There really isn't any more apartments taht aren't basements or aren't like 1650 and over + utilities.....we really just want to rent for a year, as we plan on looking for a house after xmas time......
help! opinions, suggestions, anything! Would you leave it and keep looking, risking loosing it and not finding one in a really nice area, scuk it up since we really don't plan on being there too long?

I think that price is good, especially for that area! Your electric won't be too crazy so I think the price is pretty reasonable. How did you feel when you walked into it? Did it feel like you could make it cozy and feel comfortable living there? It sound pretty nice and being that it's short term, I would definitely consider it!

I would probably **** up a smaller living room if your kitchen is a decent size and so is your bedroom especially if you plan on living there less than a year. My first apartment had a small living room and it was slightly annoying but if you could fit a couch, table and TV stand, it sounds managable!

We're paying $1400 plus electric for a 1 bedroom in Mineola so that sounds like a good deal to me! Only plus about ours was that it came completely furnished. Worked out because neither of us had furniture or the money to buy furniture at the time.

I think its a good deal. I had a really similar apt. only no room for a table in the kitchen and no central air. I paid 1100 plus electric.

yeah......it seems like a good deal, its just that when you have nothing else to compare it to, its kinda hard. There aren't many to compare to right now, so we are afraid of letting it go and thennnnnnn not finding one........I will try to look at more but there don't seem to be anymore in Franklin Square!

I think you should go for it, especially if it's just for a year!

that's a really good deal for NY, esp. considering it includes most utilities!

Re: saw the apartment last night
yeah I guess you girls are right. I guess its better to stick with a 1200 + electric instead of going to a 1650 + electric, we can put that extra money away to build up our downpayment.....if it were a long term thing or we had no intention of buying a home anytime soon, it would make sense to go look at 2br with bigger LR and/or DR......but i guess it will make sense to spend less, pocket the extra $ for our home.......
I guess we will make it our 'home' regardless of the size!!!

I think you should take it. I went looking for apartments with my friend not too long ago and she had a very difficult time. The apartments were either old, dirty with bugs or just awful looking. This one sounds nice and it's only for a year.

Sounds really good. I would take it. We had a similar situation. My boss rec. an apt to us.. Same thing. Upstairs .. but is dormered or however you spell it. $1200 including all.... thank god he told us about it because the guy wasnt listing it in the papers because he didnt want weirdos lol. We accepted the apartment the same day. Yours doesnt sound too much different than ours except the electric. I say go for it. There is a lot of crap out there.
