Saxophone player during your cocktail hour- YAY OR NAY?

Hi everyone. Would you have a saxophone player during your cocktail hour? Why or why not? He is only charging me $50 for one hour for my e-party. Let me know what you all think. Do you think it will be too loud/annoying? Does it bring more elegance to the event? Would you do it for that price? Thanks.

NAY!

I was just at Majestic Garden Bridal Show tonight and although the Sax player at the Cocktail Hour was excellent, the sound was very loud and people seemed to be yelling over his music. I like the light background music like a piano player or even just prerecorded music playing.

Re: Saxophone player during your cocktail hour- YAY OR NAY?

Nay - IMO sax is too loud for CH. I think piano or harp (maybe even violin) is better for CH

Re: Saxophone player during your cocktail hour- YAY OR NAY?

Have you heard this person play? I find it odd that he's only charging 50 dollars. I am a professional flutist, and unless he is just starting out, that seems really low. I would say definitely go for it, but only after you hear him play IN PERSON for you.

Not exactly my style. I think it would be nice if you like jazz.

Definitely, I wanna make sure that he actually knows how to play. So long as he knows how to play- I'm fine with that. What do you think if this person is just starting out? Thanks.

Some smooth jazz in the background would be very classy.

Re: Saxophone player during your cocktail hour- YAY OR NAY?

Honestly....I did not even hear the music at our CH I asked DH afterwards if he heard it and he said yes. We had recorded harp music we just had the DJ play for the hour. I must have been so busy talking that I never even heard it.

Well, if he is just starting out in the business, then that's why his price is so competitive, so that's not a bad thing. Also, make sure you're not the first party he's doing, you want him to have some experience under his belt. I know I charged less when I first started doing coctail hours and such, so that's why I say it's not a bad thing. Just to give you a gauge of what someone would normally charge, it's usually 100-200 per person. So like, when I play, I usually play with another flutist or a pianist and if I do not have to learn new music, I charge 100 per person for an hour, so 200 for a coctail hour, and if I have to travel or buy and learn new music, I charge 200 per person per hour because we need to spend the time to learn new music, rehearse it and travel, and pay for the music. Hope that helps!
