Say one was looking to move to LI..

Where would you suggest they look to buy a house... FH and I are thinking of moving ...well we have decided to do so after the wedding (if there is one). We just wondered what LI was like, the job market looks ok... and we can't rent.. we have 3 dogs.

I wish I could lie to you and say its easy here but in order to NOT rent you are looking at buying a decent house starting around 450-500k,...Plus the taxes are crazy,. Where are you coming from> I think its just easier to live here when you have grown up here your whole life.

I second that - the TAXES are the biggest thing that people overlook when they think of moving here. FH and I both grew up here and we often talk about what we're going to do. My family moved to NC, but his family is here. Every time we think, well...we could make the mortgage, then we start adding up everything else...TAXES (almost $1K a month in most places), FUEL OIL - which is now INSANELY EXPENSIVE, Electric (which keeps going up because of fuel prices), commuting costs (especially if you take the LIRR - they're proposing another 12% increase), and on and on. It's just becoming too expensive for even those of us who grew up here and love it to even think about staying!! I'm 33 and I STILL RENT and every time the ceiling leaks, the toilet backs up or the boiler breaks, I thank GOD for my landlord!!
