SAYMEL'S
Hi everyone, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I just read on weddingchannel.com, that Saymel's has gone out of business!!!! I live in Astoria and this place has been there for years and I can't believe that they just closed up their doors overnight. Apparently they are filing bankruptcy and there is a note on the door. I would advise anybody who ordered their dress or BM's dress to call this number (212) 732-4740 -- it's the number for the lawyer. FYI, in case you want to read it yourself, I got all this info off weddingchannel.com under 'Local' and then 'New York' and then 'saymel rumor'. I know how you feel because the place I bought my dress was MIA for about 3 days, but thank God it all turned out ok. I hope the same goes for any one of you that's been affected. This is definitely something a Bride-to-Be SHOULD NOT be going through!! Good luck.

I feel so terrible for all the girls who are dressless or out big money because of this store. I went there a few months ago to shop for dresses and I have to say the entire operation was a mess! From the salespeople to the receptionist...yikes!

I hope this helps... a friends daughter is in a wedding this July and they ordered Jim Helm dresses from Saymel's, they contacted the customer service dept. at Jim Helm and the order was placed, and when the dresses are ready, they are going to be sent to Kleinfeld's ...but never less, no bride needs this stress!

Maybe call the dress manufacturer directly?
They should still be in business, still want you as a client and possibly be able to even send you the dress at home? Only thing is did you pay extra for tailoring/fittings? That I would definitely try to get back either in small claims court or call Saymel's lawyers directly. Good luck I feel for you.

thanks everyone!
My mom talked to Saymel's lawyer, and they were very nice about it. They are appearing before a judge on Monday to see what will happen. The one advantage i have with me is time, but I feel bad for brides who are getting married this weekend or later. Good luck to everyone.

thanks everyone!
I called the designer of the gown and they were very nice. They are going to make the dress for me at wholesale. I will still lose money but not as much as I would have if I had to buy the dress again somewhere else. My advise is to call the designer of the dress and see what can be done. These dresses are marked up considerably by the wedding salons. There is a big difference in the Wholesale price. I also called the lawyer but I can tell you that we will probably not see our deposits. I will file a claim though. Good Luck!

Good Luck to you all
If you have any problems with the lawyer or getting refunds you can always call Fox 5 news. They have done reports on this stuff and have helped girls get their $ back. If your dress is inside the shop you should be able to get it out.

Do you know if your dress had been ordered already? We just had a place close down near me (in Baltimore) and the place that closed down had all of the dresses sent to a different place as they started coming in. If 'the lawyer' you are referring to is Saymel's attorney, then you should try to speak with a lawyer who is actually concerned with your interests, rather than the store's. BeckyWelcome New Vendors
