It is true...I do have a membership to the gym that FH pays from. It was a year old in october and I think I may have gone 5 times the entire time ive had it.
I honestly have a fear of going to the gym by myself. Im fine once someone has gone with me a few times but I'm really nervous to go on my own now.
I think I'm crazy!

al's something or other. It's in westbury it used to be dolphin. This is my millionth membership. We used to belong to LA fitness but it was too much money. I used to go there a lot. I'm not really comfortable at this gym but its a lot cheaper than what i was paying and its on the same block i work on...too bad I drive by it everyday.

just go in one day...honestly, when you go to work out no one is going to look at you like 'oh she is by herself ewwww' or anything like that...everyone is there for the same reason, to get into shape...Just bring some music with you, turn it up and get moving!!!

Nooo dont cry!!! Try to bring your work out gear into your job with you, and get changed before you leave... If your anxiety about it is really bad why dont you try some owrk out videos at home for a week or so to get your stamina up, then hit the gym once and try walking on the treadmill for 20 mins...Work your way into it...

dont be scared hun! ppl are soo into themselves at th gym that they dont really notice any1 else..
unless ur a crazy lady that does the 2-step on the treadmill while swinging ur arms pretending u have an invisible lasso...thats the only time ppl will stare and look at u like ur nuts. (yes, this person does exist)

I like to pretend I'm the only one there and I freakin OWN the gym. Just don't bother with anyone else and they won't bother you. Really, no one pays any attention to anyone else. Just get yourself there a few times...even if its uncomfortable for a little bit, try your best. You'll become more comfortable there after a while!

I feel this way too....I would like someone else to go with me, but my friend's belong to really expensive gyms.
If I could make a suggestion...why not try Curves? It''s a circuit workout just for women. The one I go to also has a bike machine, elliptical, and treadmills. They have classes too. It's only $25 a month. BTW I go to the one in West Hempstead if you wanted to go with someone
I used to go to Lucille Roberts and it was good because they were all really nice. Everyone there had a different skill level too so it was nice...

Unfortunately, I have a year contract with my gym so I'm stuck there. I loved LA Fitness but it was $50 a month and I just couldnt afford it.

I know how you feel, the gym I go to is at my job and is for employees only and is free, but I didn't want to go at first because I didnt want to be working out in front of my coworkers-that just freaked me out-especially when the CEO and other executives are in there. But then I decided I should just go because its free and why should I pay for a membership somewhere else when this is right there. So after a few times of going I got over the initial being embarassed.
