Scared straight???

Every week we get a 'monday memo'. This week it says:

'Every day, the Information Technology Division monitors web usage, reports on the amount of web traffic from each computer, and provides a listing of the URLs that are visited. Those individuals who are spending inordinate amounts of work time web surfing and/or visiting adult-oriented websites while using government computing equipment are placing their livelihoods in jeopardy. I urge everyone to heed this warning.'

I'm debating, should I be scared since I probably spend more time than I should with my LIW window open?

i agree.

and if they ever did say anything to you, you could just say that just because you keep the window open all day doesn't mean that you are chatting on the site the whole time. i think then instead of getting in trouble, they would just ask you not to keep it open.

I've heard a lot of companies doing this now. They have the right to track every website their employees are on and for how long. They say it is hindering production output.

Yeah my last job claimed the same thing but I don't know how true it is....i'm sure if something porn related comes up they would go to that first over something like this. There are definetely certain red flags.

I'm compulsive on here....constantly deleting files and cookies, I don't know if that really helps but makes me feel a little bit better.

Hmm, I'd be scared straight and close the window... But that's me - I got called in to HR once for sending a picture from the Boardy Barn that we all took. One friend of ours had his hand on his girlfriend's boob and HR was like - who'd you send that to? Luckily I said myself and that was the end of it. Had I sent to someone else I probably would have been fired.

They probably monitor you, I'd be more careful...

Yea...they probably would've said something directly to you if they knew. i always thought they just used that as a threat but never really looked into it. Well if they say something to you just explain how you are trying to get to 2000 posts! They'll understand!

In other companies I thought it was a threat but here i'm not so sure...I was curious if anyone else had seen anything like that.

Yeah alot of companies are blocking alot of websites but LIW is not bad. What are you suppose to do when you are bored and have nothing to do at work, stare at the wall , lololol

Yeah seriously, I dont think I want to work for a big company bec of this, I work for a small company where nobody bothers nobody and nobody really cares so I can be on LIW all day long , but when I have work to do, I do my work, no messing around
