School Bus

School Bus

Hi- We want to do a shuttle service for our guests, but it is sooo pricey.. we have about 100 people who would need transportation-gets costly..

What does everyone think about using school busses as a shuttle? i know it isn't the most elegant idea, but i think it would be better than nothing? It's either that or just let everyone go their own way..

thanks!

I think that would be tacky. I am all for saving costs but that just pushes it. JMO

if a guest would have the nerve to find a school bus tacky, let them walk. you are doing a nice (and expensive!) thing by shuttling your guests, and it's not even a basic requirement of a wedding.

you have to cut corners somewhere. i think it's a very nice idea and people will be grateful to not have to drive.

if they don't like the school bus, let them drive, or better yet, walk

Use whatever you want! If it does the job, then I say go for it. It's extremely generous of you to offer transportation as it is!

Re: School Bus

Does your temple or church have a bus? I'm doing the same thing because my church is in Manhattan and the reception is in LI, but the church has a bus so that helps.
Whatever gets them to the reception is what counts, they should be happy that you are willing to spend money for their transportation on top of everything else.

Go for the school bus! Whatever you can do will be fine, not tacky!

i got a coach bus that holds 55 people for $700 , it'll go from hotel to church, back to hotel, to reception and then drive everyone back to hotel after reception. not a bad price. if you can only afford a school bus, go for it, they should be appreciative that you did anything.

You can dress up a school bus with big tulle bows tied onto the outside mirrors, or drape some tulle around the windows if you are afraid of how it will look. But I think the guests will be grateful for any kind of transportation.

I do suggest you call the LIW vendor for valet parking for the shuttle. I called for a valet for my ceremony, and the price was out of reach, but they offered a shuttle to/from parking lot (instead of valet) and the price was very very reasonable. I'm still working out other details and haven't booked, but they are the front-runners for my business.

First off I think a school bus is fine...if it saves lives it is worth it. Also I don't think it needs to be dressed up at all...it is a mode of transportation that will keep all your guests safe & it will do the trick. I am doing a shuttle but I don't have nearly as many peopel as you are having. I think school buses though can be just as expensive as a shuttle bus. Someone I know dad can get school buses & I think they are about $800.

I wouldn't do a school bus, maybe a coach bus.

I wouldn't do a school bus. JMO. It is extrememly bumpy and sometimes very dirty and not cleaned before hand. I would be careful on the ride home because I have heard horro stories about people being drunk and getting sick from the bumpy ride

We got our Shuttle bus very inexpensive. We used Alert Coach Bus. They were great to work with. I think it was ~$350 round trip.

I used school buses for my guests. It wasn't 'tacky' and the buses were clean.

With anything else, make sure you investigate the vendor.

My sister went to a wedding where they used a school bus and nobody thought is was tacky. My sister actually said that she thought is was a great idea.

I couldn't agree more!

I looked into getting a school bus. My friends all thought it was a great idea and that it would be really funny. I was assured that the bus would be cleaned top to bottom beforehand and that the newer buses had better shocks than when we were kids. So, it wouldn't be as bumpy as we thought. The only problem was that there was no a/c.

DH didn't share my enthusiasm for the idea. So that was the one battle I let him win. We hired a Hampton Jitney although I thought it was a waste of money!
