School supply drives, soup kitchens, etc.

School supply drives, soup kitchens, etc.

So I've been reading about how families can't afford school supplies and new school clothes and it's really bothering me that I'm spending all this money on my wedding and people can't even afford to send their kids to school!

So I was wondering if anyone knows about any school supply drives or homeless shelters in nassau/western suffolk because I'd like to start donating money, food, housewares (all of the engagement party and shower gifts replaced or will replace my old ones), and things like that.

I'm also issuing a call to action for all of us Long Island Brides to give back to our communities, even when we're crazy with wedding plans. An extra $25 worth of canned goods, socks, underwear, or pens donated to a local shelter makes a world of difference.

I know what you mean...I also think it's so much worse when I see 'Platinum Weddings!!!!' That was part of the reason DH and I decided to do donations in lieu of favors (the first reason was to honor our late fathers).

I know that the churches (specially the ones in low income areas) collect for people in need

OMG what an awesome idea!! If you find out where we can drop these things off let me know. I spend 25 bucks on bullsh!t, Id rather spend it on supplies for kids who cant afford them!!
