S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

though you girls are always so incredibly helpful, you are all so darn thin! ha ha!

i have all these questions that i can't pose to all ya'll skinny chicks. i swear, if i had the money and the design talent, i'd start a 'plus sized bride' web site. they have sites for 'chocolate brides' and 'indie rock brides' and everything else you can think of....

hmm, i should talk to FH about brushing up on his dreamweaver skills... here's the deal...

i'm having shoe issues, wide feet. i don't think the wides on zappos are even going to fit. i want to talk to a real bride who has a wide foot and see what she suggests.

flattering hair styles? i have actually googled 'chubby bridal hair' and other words like 'bbw brides' and then just sneak around people's online photo albums hoping to stumble on a fellow chubber and see how she styled her hair.

bras? here's the issue, when you have a big tummy the number of your bra size goes out the window because you can't close the clasp on the long line past the boobage, need bra help. can my seamstress just sew in a regular bra since my dress is strapless.

bridal panties - the cute blue and white type or rhinestone ones - sure victoria's secret has great stuff, but not for the big gals.

all these chubby questions, nobody to answer them. ha ha.

I can only help with the wide feet issues. I have extra wide feet myself and have found some shoes on Zappos. With the free shipping both ways, definitely try them out.

Good luck with everything else...

Please don't fele bad - there are plenty of plus size gals right here on these pages. I am one of them Ok sure I am the only one who can lose the weight and I have done it before but here and now I am a big girl. Look up my post from Thursday -re: thank you LIWedding- pic of Kim from client services & me - you'll see) or my website here.

My wedding is not until 9/27 but I'll share pics. big arms ...and I am wearing a halter neckline -

go to davids bridal and try on the wide sizes - payless even has a dyeables line and they carry wide widths. Buy them now and break them in. I have been wearing my shoes at work and home - no matter what size I think most of us(brides) are breaking in our shoes.

Once you are a C cup or better stay away from cups sewn in they don't hold up well. Get a good strapless bra- not a bustier or long line bra. Lane Bryant has them but check Macys and if you want to spend $$$ Mary corsetier in woodbury ..I think. they'll special order. FM me anytime you want !!!

I think the gals on here represent all shapes, sizes, colors, and lifestyles....so keep posting and we will all help!!!!

as far as the undergarments, i would try blums in the village of patchogue, they carry everything for everyone

You are too sweet, I'm going to sneak into your album shortly. I'm actually a 44ddd, gasp, I had ordered something from like FreshPair or some undies web site, it didn't fit, I sent it back. I recently ordered a basic strapless bra from them and a panty that goes from tummy to thigh - so hopefully that will work. we'll see.

thanks so much! LB used to have cute bridal panties, oh now that it's june, i should check again, maybe they only do it in the summer!

*raises hand*

For hair, I'm thinking of a half up do, curly in the back. I HAVE to wear my hair down (I think, anyway) because my shoulder's are so broad and my arms so wide and I don't want to look like a linebacker.

For undergarments I was going to go to Blums in Patchouge and see what they can do for me. I have a one piece 'girdle' that I wore when I was my cuz's MOH and it was all one piece - pull on, no clasps etc. But I feel like the bra part doesn't support me enough.

I have wide feet and have never had a problem with 'Wide' sized shoes.

My biggest dilemma are these awful bat wings hanging off my arms - I'm obsessed with them to the point I might have my seamstress put sleeves on my dress

ETA: I just realized - we're date twins!!

hey i am a 07 bride and a plus size one as well. your not alone trust me. its tough being plus size cause stores don;t carry alot in or sizes. i went to blums in patchogue for my bra. trust me it was well worth it.

as for shoes i got my at davids bridal. i hate shoes exspecially ones with heels i can't walk in them. but i found a great pair at davids bridal. also try casa d' mario's in patchogue. they carry tons of shoes and wides as well. ask for joesphine to help you if you go to that shoe store.

as for hair well i would stay away from anything to slick . i wopuld go with some type if updo thats fuller not so slicked dow to your head. or the half up half done is always great as well.
if you ever ned to chat you can fm me.
hoped i helped ya.

Re: S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

ally! i was going to respond to your FM, but i figured i'd write here in case there are other plus sized brides lurking! :)

first, thanks for all the compliments...you are very sweet! now..........

YOU are going to be a beautiful bride!!!!!!!!!! there's just no doubt about it. i cannot even begin to explain to you how much i was freaking out about my weight before the wedding. i swore i would lose weight and didn't and was feeling horrible about it. i was HATING my arms in a big way and even bought some stupid toning lotion that of course didn't work. but here's the thing....on your wedding day, you will not be thinking about your size....you will be thinking about how in love you are and how blessed you are to have your friends and family around. i really felt like our day was magical and i'm sure EVERY bride feels that way.

also--i know there are plenty of plus sized brides on here, but i understand how you feel when you see a thin bride who's just gorgeous and her dress fits perfectly and her hair is perfect and etc etc. but listen, in the end what is important is you and your FH and the love you share.

ok, the practical stuff......

i was the person who tried to help you with the bra....i'm sorry it didn't work :( i would say to talk to your seamstress about it. i've known plus size brides who have had their bra sewn into their dresses, although i don't know if that will provide a ton of support. i would recommend going to a specialty shop and having them order something for you. i went to this place called My Intimacy in Manhattan for some regular bras and they were great!

i can't help on the wide feet issue, but i think that eventually you will find something. also.....i only wore my 'real' shoes for the ceremony and then IMMEDIATELY switched to my flip flops. just make sure you get platform flip flops so your dress doesn't drag.

as for hair.........i think you have to do what looks best on YOU. i had two trials with two different vendors before i found my hair vendor. after the first two, i was ready to give up and was convinced i was just 'ugly'. i spent a good amount of $ to get the extensions for the wedding but it was worth it in the end and i did my own makeup so i saved on that!

lastly....i wore spanx under my dress and regular cotton ugly grandma panties! what matters is that you are comfortable. i had cute lacey panties for under my dress and at the last minute i changed to my usual cotton ones! i didn't want to worry about my panties on my wedding day!

omg...i know this is so long, but this is such a 'hot' subject for me. i WISH there was a site for plus sized brides!!! i've even thought about writing a book about it!

one more thing......remember that everybody puts their BEST photos on here...i have plenty that are less than flattering and i'm sure every bride does!

ok, i'm gonna shut up :) if you need ANYTHING, FM me!! i totally feel your pain, but you are and will be gorgeous on your day!!!!!

I got my bridal underwear at Georgettes in Hicksville. They have larger and harder to find sizes in bras, underwear and corsettes! www.gerogettesbras.com

Re: S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

Hey Ally!!

I know exactly what you mean!!! I wasn't going to post here, was going to send you FM b/c I'm usually not comfy discussing my weight issues. Many years ago I was a street size 22, and through health problems, I'm now a size 10-12 in jeans, but I've always had issues with weight. But as someone else said, there are probably a lot of big girls like us lurking and maybe they can benefit from something I've said.

My sis works for corporate Vicky's Secrets, and I've complained to her that the cute stuff in the stores and catalogs just doesn't fit me! I've ordered things online, only to have to return it again. And it was very disheartening to go to VS with our other sis to look at the bridal stuff, when I held up the Bride shirt in L against my body and said, yeah right! I was seriously telling her, please don't buy me anything from here, even as a surprise, b/c it just won't fit.

What I have done, though, is to go Fredrick's of Hollywood (I forget which LI mall it's in). They have dressing rooms and you can try stuff on (of course, not underwear, but nevertheless, it was a better experience). They carry not only XS-XL, but then 1X-3X sizes. I have a few silky sleepshirts and chemises in XL. I know they have a lot of sleazy type of stuff, but if you search their online catalog and know what you're looking for, it makes it a little easier. They do have some nice silky satin chemises and slips with a little lace trim, things that cover up the not-so-nice parts of you and show off your curves and assets. Of course, when sizing is an issue, it's easier to try things on at the store than to order online. I'm planning another trip there sometime this summer to see what they have.

Also, for cute or sexy lacy panties, Fredrick's has a whole bunch to choose from in larger sizes too. What works for me is lacy boy shorts. I purposely bought a white pair to match the lacy babydoll from there for my wedding night. They have them in all colors, so you can get a baby blue or dark blue, and either have them embroidered or go to AC Moore for the rhinestones and DIY. I've thought of that, but I don't know if I'm going to do that.

Also, it's either at KMart or Target, I can't remember which store.... they have a brand called 'Gilligan & O'Malley' and they have lacy bras and panties in different styles and sizes. They also have sleepwear, both comfy and sexy, so you might want to check them out. The quality is nice, and the price is great. I have a few pairs of black undies from them and FH loves me in them!

As for shoes, I'm usually a 8W or 8 1/2W. I need a very low heel because I have a weak leg/hip from bone cancer, so walking on those beautiful bridal heels that I love is totally out of the question. My sis (the one who works for VS) LOVES and collects shoes. She walks on the highest heels I've ever seen!! But me, I HATE shoe shopping because I can't find anything that's comfortable AND pretty or sexy!! So that's my goal for this summer, to find shoes for the wedding so I can wear them around my apt and break them in. I've been to Payless with no luck, and I've looked online at Coloriffics, b/c they have low heels and wide widths. I've also seen the brand Capparos (sp?) that has wide widths too.

As for bra, I went with a longline bra at David's Bridal where I got my dress. I think it's a 38C or a 40C? I think they tend to run small, or maybe it's b/c they're supposed to hold you in that they feel tight? But this one was comfortable and that shocked me!

Hair...... this one was a given for me before we even got engaged, before we even met! I'm having my hair down, slightly pulled up (like half up/half down), but with curls around my face so I can 'see' my hair in peripheral vision. I was bald for a year and a half when I was 15-16 yrs old on chemo, so I KNEW my hair had to be long, down, curly, around my face for my wedding day. I NEED to have my hair in my face, even though everyone around me says, 'we can't see your face that way!' Doesn't matter...... it's my hair! Then again, I don't like my hair up. I've never liked my hair up! I love long curls, think Botticelli curls (those girls were big girls too!!). Somewhere on here I posted my hair trials this past February..... I don't know how to go back and find the link, but my hair was done by Jenn the hair genie. She made my hair much have much more volume that it ever has had. It balanced out my body well!

OK, I had planned to write a few lines and I've written a book! Hope some of these ideas help you!!! Let us know how it goes!

Re: S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

I am a plus size bride and I was able to get a bra at Georgettes, but my bridal shop also has long line bras. I have a big chest as well as a big tummy area- which is my major problem area. My legs are muscular but dont match the rest of my body. My feet are borderline right now- i think the more I wear flip flops the wider my feet get. i was able to find a pair of shoes- they are in my album at DSW. Try there. Mine are Caparos. Hair styles- I havent done an official trial but I am trying to grow my hair out and my hairdresser is going to get me clip on extensions and we are doing a half up half down style to minimize my round face. trust me I know what you are going through. Feel free to FM me. I have my moments where I feel like I am going to be an ugly fat bride but you have to get past that. I am trying to drop a few pounds (or more hopefully) by the wedding. but I went to try my gown on again yesterday and I have to say it makes me look a hell of a lot skinnier than I am!! Sometimes it is all in the dress!! If you ever want to chat just FM me.

Re: S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

You're not alone in your plus-sizness!! I'm a plus sized bride.

I totally understand what you are feeling.

In terms of shoes I ordered like 7 pairs of shoes from Zappos all wide width..some fit well and other didn't...I did the same with shoebuy.com. I narrowed it down to one pair that really fit well and felt like it accomadted my Flinstone feet. I'm still looking though just to make sure I get the most comfortable pai of whoes.

I also have a strapless dress...but I'm not having cups sewen in....I'm a rare plus size girl who is big but a B cup. Can you imagine how hard it is to find a 44B!!! I plan on going to Georgette's, Blum's or Bra Tenders to get a nice corset bra. I had issues with my dressbeing strapless because it would show my football player arms and thanfully the bridal consultant suggested a shrug which worjked beautifully. I was just so down about dresses...and then it has all workd out.

I know some of the other girls mentioned LB and Frederick's...they def. have lots of cute stufff there that's fun, playful and sexy and plus sized..which we are

Hair styles....pends largely on your facial structure...even some thin girlsdon't look good with certain hairstyles. I'm looking to do my hair half-up and half down...but I've worn my hair comepltely up for a friends wedding before and it looked good....the hair stylist framed my face beautifully. Try different hairstyles...don't be afraidor think you won't look good becuase your plus sized. If I've learned anything is that I have to be open to trying new styles to see what looks best on me...from the dress to hair that applies.

Thank you soo much for posting this and remember you are NOT alone

Re: S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

okay - first things first....

1. Shoes - easy spirit... Just got my mom some LOVELY sandals last night. They have double wide sizes and it's all she can wear. You can see her size in my Pro Pics album...she's not little & neither am i.

2. I have my hair trial and day of hair in my pics and albums as well - browse as you need to and FM me with any ???? I can give you my hair stylist as well - she's a GEM!!!!

3. bra - the only place I went was, Georgettes. The ladies there were overwhelmingly helpful.. She never once made me feel fat or in need of MAJOR help at all!!!!

4. The bridal panty thing - that i can't help with....and to be completely honest - didn't matter. I wore suck you in panties and guess what? Dave never saw them anyway. After the wedding - you both are going to be so tired - just walking to your hotel room or home will be WORK & EFFORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My feet never hurt so badly as after the wedding....it was torture walking to the hotel room - no joke!

PLEASE remember one thing that i'm still having a hard time with. Drew loves you for what you are, no matter your size - he loves you for what you are to him and how you make him feel. I've blown off so many things said like that to me from Dave that i've FINALLY started to realize that it hurts them when you poo poo them. If Drew didn't love every ounce of you, he wouldn't have proposed....
