S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

Original post by AllyDrew1108

though you girls are always so incredibly helpful, you are all so darn thin! ha ha!

i have all these questions that i can't pose to all ya'll skinny chicks. i swear, if i had the money and the design talent, i'd start a 'plus sized bride' web site. they have sites for 'chocolate brides' and 'indie rock brides' and everything else you can think of....

hmm, i should talk to FH about brushing up on his dreamweaver skills... here's the deal...

i'm having shoe issues, wide feet. i don't think the wides on zappos are even going to fit. i want to talk to a real bride who has a wide foot and see what she suggests.

flattering hair styles? i have actually googled 'chubby bridal hair' and other words like 'bbw brides' and then just sneak around people's online photo albums hoping to stumble on a fellow chubber and see how she styled her hair.

bras? here's the issue, when you have a big tummy the number of your bra size goes out the window because you can't close the clasp on the long line past the boobage, need bra help. can my seamstress just sew in a regular bra since my dress is strapless.

bridal panties - the cute blue and white type or rhinestone ones - sure victoria's secret has great stuff, but not for the big gals.

all these chubby questions, nobody to answer them. ha ha.

There are plenty of plus size brides on here!

It doesnt matter what size you are, there are always ways to dress yourself to look your best.

Why are you looking for 'chubby bride hair'? I just looked at all hair styles and chose one that worked best for me. You arent limited by hair b/c of weight.

As for a bra- I got mine at the place I got my dress. They can either take in a larger size where they need to or add extenders. Also try somewhere like Georgettes in Hicksville or Mary's Corsettires (sp?) in Syosset. They fit all sizes. My sister was a 30/32 when she got married and they were able to fit a bra to her w/ no problem.

As for shoes- try Sandys in Massapequa. They have a large selection and lots of styles in wide. I was affraid of being stuck w/ 'fat bride/frumpy' shoes, but I actually found nice ones in wide width.

Good Luck! And don't worry- you will look beautiful!!!

Re: S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

Hi,

I haven't posted on here in a while, but I wanted to come on and respond, being plus size myself. The most important thing is that no matter what, you WILL be beautiful on your wedding day, no matter what size you are. My wedding is next month. I bought my dress at Beautiful Bride in Lynbrook, because I heard they had alot of plus size dresses to try on, which was very important to me. I didn't want to put on a regular size dress with clips to 'get an idea' of what it would look like. I ended up ordering a 20W. As far as shoes, I had a hard time finding something I liked, as I have super wide feet too. My mother gave me a coupon for a store, I believe its called Martins Shoes, that specialize in all wide widths, but I never went. Instead I went to DSW Warehouse and bought my heels a size bigger. Im going to tough it out for the ceremony and kick those bad boys off as SOON as I walk out of the church. My bra I purchased at Georgettes, which I actually stumbled upon because I work right across the street. They were very helpful with fitting me, my bra is comfortable, and they even showed me a special way to hook it in the back. For hairstyles I would stick with what works best for your face. I've opted to leave my hair down to cover my 'chins' lol, but thats just what I like. Lastly I found out about this book yesterday (talk about too late for me) its called 'Down That Aisle in Style; A Wedding Guide for Full Figured Women' by Chamein Canton. Hope my two cents helps!

if you can believe this, i'm too fat for spanx. i bought the largest pair they make at LB and i couldn't get them up! that was 30 lbs ago though, so maybe now i can somehow get them on. i should check it out.

i think what i meant about the hair was like 'flattering for a full face' that would have been the PC way of saying chubby bride hair. hee hee.

I can't believe the kind words you and all of these other brides have shared with me.

All of your input and thoughts and suggestions are just, don't laugh at me, ladies, i'm actually like tearing up over it. It's unreal how a web site can bring all these girls together to share and help each other and support each other with things that may seem totally silly to someone else. Like 'help my arms look flabby' - to know that other people are thinking the same way, like FH doesn't understand when I tell him 'I can't make the face pushed up and forward face the entire day to avoid tripple chin-syndrome in our photos' ha ha....

i love all of you girls, chubby, thin, whatever! ha ha!

ally! i was going to respond to your FM, but i figured i'd write here in case there are other plus sized brides lurking! :)

first, thanks for all the compliments...you are very sweet! now..........

YOU are going to be a beautiful bride!!!!!!!!!! there's just no doubt about it. i cannot even begin to explain to you how much i was freaking out about my weight before the wedding. i swore i would lose weight and didn't and was feeling horrible about it. i was HATING my arms in a big way and even bought some stupid toning lotion that of course didn't work. but here's the thing....on your wedding day, you will not be thinking about your size....you will be thinking about how in love you are and how blessed you are to have your friends and family around. i really felt like our day was magical and i'm sure EVERY bride feels that way.

also--i know there are plenty of plus sized brides on here, but i understand how you feel when you see a thin bride who's just gorgeous and her dress fits perfectly and her hair is perfect and etc etc. but listen, in the end what is important is you and your FH and the love you share.

ok, the practical stuff......

i was the person who tried to help you with the bra....i'm sorry it didn't work :( i would say to talk to your seamstress about it. i've known plus size brides who have had their bra sewn into their dresses, although i don't know if that will provide a ton of support. i would recommend going to a specialty shop and having them order something for you. i went to this place called My Intimacy in Manhattan for some regular bras and they were great!

i can't help on the wide feet issue, but i think that eventually you will find something. also.....i only wore my 'real' shoes for the ceremony and then IMMEDIATELY switched to my flip flops. just make sure you get platform flip flops so your dress doesn't drag.

as for hair.........i think you have to do what looks best on YOU. i had two trials with two different vendors before i found my hair vendor. after the first two, i was ready to give up and was convinced i was just 'ugly'. i spent a good amount of $ to get the extensions for the wedding but it was worth it in the end and i did my own makeup so i saved on that!

lastly....i wore spanx under my dress and regular cotton ugly grandma panties! what matters is that you are comfortable. i had cute lacey panties for under my dress and at the last minute i changed to my usual cotton ones! i didn't want to worry about my panties on my wedding day!

omg...i know this is so long, but this is such a 'hot' subject for me. i WISH there was a site for plus sized brides!!! i've even thought about writing a book about it!

one more thing......remember that everybody puts their BEST photos on here...i have plenty that are less than flattering and i'm sure every bride does!

ok, i'm gonna shut up :) if you need ANYTHING, FM me!! i totally feel your pain, but you are and will be gorgeous on your day!!!!!

Re: S*cks being a plus sized bride :(

i think it it awesome how so many people have posted on your thread! i love reading everybody's honesty. and i loved that a previous poster said you would be too tired after your wedding to care about your panties because it is SO TRUE! after our wedding, DH passed out and i went to drink and eat pizza with my friends in a hotel room down the hall!!

as for the spanx.....i can almost guarantee they DO fit you...they are HARD to pull up! like, it's serious work! but once they are on, they are awesome! plus, they make ones that are less 'suck in' than others. but seriously, i have a friend who is a size 4 at most and she said she has to pull like h*ll to get them up!

oohh..lol

I have a chubby face (as well as a chubby everythign else..lol) so I found it helped to have height in the front to elongate my face and make it seem thinner. Of corse my face was still chubby, but it flattered me best.

there is no physical way for you to do the 'hold the face up to avoid triple chin' the entire day - seriously....but if you just smile genuinely, the chins won't bother you. I know this sounds impossible....but you know how i feel about myself (through FM's) and you know how worried I was about the photos....in any photo I have out of our proofs where i was GENUINELY smiling, showing teeth....yes, you can see my 900 chins, BUT you can also see how truly happy I was. Believe me - that makes up for seeing all the chins in the world!!!!

Here I am waving my hand!!!

I totally understand where you are coming from. I did want to respond and say that,
I am not a shy person,, never have been. I did the plus size modeling bride Tv thing for LiW last year and had a blast.
LIW TV (just type in plus size in the search box in the top corner of the link). But now that I have my dress, I have issues and concerns too!! I am worried about my arms, and back fat. I am concerned that my face will look wide. LOL hell I am worried about going to the bathroom in that dress.

I am considering
1. a heel and then flats for the reception to make my life easier.

2. a midget with a fan under the dress to keep me cool and no chaffing

3. maybe wearing my hair down to cover my shoulders and back a bit

4. dressing like an eskimo (it is november for my wedding after all)

But then I see all these other brides pictures and I figure that I will be as happy as them too, and it will show on my day.

I would say go to TORRID.com That is their BRIDAL section where I got some awesome Bride panties and such from. Or try
HIPSANDCURVES.com they also have some bride stuff and all around nice lingere.
I have not ventured to Blumbs orGeorgettes but might have to give it a shot. I believe I am going with a pair of cotton blue boy shorts from Torrid for my panties and maybe sewn in cups for the top.

I hope that some of that could help. I am available via FM if you want to talk!!

They are amazing. Hair I am doing some up some down to hide the back fat! Any other questions I am here for you b/c I need help from a big girl too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi, I'm one too

I can't even use zappos - I have to try on shoes before I buy because they hardly ever fit. Ordering online is too much hassle to just send them all right back! I haven't started my shoe quest yet! I should soon though because it'll take me awhile. I haven't bought dress shoes in ages. I buy sneakers at the show warehouse, they have dress shoe there too.

The big bra thing that David's strapped me in was fine for me - BUT I have small boobs!

My dress is a Bonny. I think their sizes go up to 24W?

My hair will be Shirley Temple Ringlets. i'm unsure how long my bangs are gonna be. The top will be pulled back, but it'll all be ringlets.

And I haven't thought about panties! The set I got for my shower is way too small
