ok...so Erga Bakery is used by WM and a few other halls so i thought I'd ask some opinions. i contacted them a while back because i really wanted to use fondant on my cake and get a particular design. i got a tip from another bride to go directly thru them and not WM because it would be less money for the upgrade going direct...makes sense. They were really great and said to just bring the pic that i had emailed and it could be done for about $250 more. problem is..i have heard some mixed reviews about this bakery and the actual taste of the cake.
Brides that have had a cake from Erga....how was it? honestly...is it worth going to a whole other vendor and paying for a cake even though its included with my hall...aside from the upgrade?

Re: PAST ERGA BAKERY BRIDES
If you are worried about the taste of the cake, go there and get a cake and taste it for yourself. I think the cakes there taste good, I've gone to that bakery my whole life.
my issue with tasting is that they are ready for you when you do them! lol i have the same issue with any tasting...i think they are somewhat useless..I mean...even with halls..do you think that you are going to get the same meal they cook for you as the one they cook for 300 on the actual wedding ...no way! its jmo... I dont know what to do..i have just heard a lot of negative feedback about their wedding cakes from reviews I've read...maybe it hasnt been that many and I am just overreacting because they are attached to 'my' venue....i am just confused...

10000% agree with the tasting thought. However, I thought my cake tasted great. I think it depends also on what filling you get with the fondant, certain cake flavors are not right with fondant. We get alot of our bakery stuff from Erga and not once it wasnt up to our standards.

i will have this bakery doing my cake as it is the bakery used by Fox Hollow. I went on their site, and their 'wedding cakes' are not impressive at all. I gave Fox Hollow a pic of the cake I want and hope they do an ok job. I wish I had the extra $, I would totally get my cake somewhere else.

Thats bc that isnt the only thing they do, alot of the high end bakeries specialize in wedding cakes...but not all. I think cakes should be beautiful but they can look nice and taste like poo too. If you are worried just go to Erga's and give them the picture and see what they say.

Re: PAST ERGA BAKERY BRIDES
another recent WM bride had a bad experience with Ergas and told WM that they will not be using them and requested a credit....WM gave her a credit of $200 and she ordered her cake else where...........on a side note....my florist included votives in my CP charge b/c I wanted square votives he also told me to tell WM that I wouldnt be needing their votives and to request a credit for that as well.
HTH!!!!
I plan on using Butter Cookey bakery in Floral Park by the Floral Terrace....BEST cake i've ever had and i'm a snotty brat who only likes cake and pastries from queens
PS i that same bride who got the credit said that Ergas pastries were good....just the cake was TERRBILE!

Re: PAST ERGA BAKERY BRIDES
I have ordered a cake from Erga specifically because it was the bakery for my hall, I had the Napolean cake, and it was amazing, and I intend to ask them for that as my wedding cake.

Re: PAST ERGA BAKERY BRIDES
After hearing so many mixed reviews about this place, I finally went there last weekend to buy a cake. It was pretty good. The chocolate tasted like it had liquor in it, still good just different. Overall I would say its a B cake.

i dont understand why Scotto Brothers uses them! Everything else about their halls is wonderful.....great food, service, and cocktails.....why do they have to supply cake that is so unreliable???

Re: Scotto Bros*PAST ERGA BAKERY BRIDES
I went through the same thing when it came to my cake. At first i was fine using the supplied cake, but then I saw Fox Hollow cakes compared to other halls and read some iffy reviews and decided to use an outside vendor. When I booked they told me they used Erga and Cardinelli and we had a choice, but the next person I spoke to said they onl;y used Erga and had never used cardinelli. So I just went elsewhere to avoid being dissapointed.

See this is how bad things happen to businesses. Speak from experience not from reading another review, link her over to the WM bride who had an issue so that she can read it and take it for what its worth.
If you havent had an experience with the vendor you really shouldnt comment on what OTHER people have experienced, since you arent them, you dont know how their situation arose, etc.~KWIM?
3 reviews that talk about the cakes isnt an unreliable cake. You have to take every review you read with a grain of salt. What bothers you may not bother someone else, what you like someone else may not. Erga's has been in business for over 40 years, they did the cake for my ILs wedding 42 years ago...did the cake for my wedding~granted i didnt like the way that it looked but that was my fault not theirs. I have read 2 reviews on this site (total) that arent sparkling about the cakes from Erga. There are 3 halls that use Erga...2 negative reviews (hell lets pretend its 5) isnt enough to say Erga doesnt make good cakes or great cakes or an unreliable cake. It just means that they made 5 bad (depends on your idea of bad) cakes for the hundreds of brides that have gotten married at Scotto Brothers facilities on this site and otherwise.

No you are allowed to be freaked out~that is your gut~but read the reviews, good bad and ugly and decide whether its a chance you want to take.
Im not saying you shouldnt listen to the bad reviews, you definitely should...but take them in stride. I may say I had a great experience with a vendor b/c the 2 phone calls that went unreturned were no big deal but someone else may find 1 unreturned call crazy and freak out~KWIM?
There are different levels to everything you read, read it and take it to the next level. Go to Erga for a tasting-yes they give you cupcakes, etc. but you can get an idea, go again for a tasting, go 50 times if you want and that will make you less 'stressed' out about it. Buy some cookies, buy a cake, whatever it is you need to make it less of an issue for you. And if you are still unconvinced move forward and look elsewhere.
But if there is anythign I learned on this site its follow YOUR GUT! Not that of someone elses and ONLY listen to the reviews of people who have an experience with a particular vendor. I cant tell you how many brides LOVE LOVE LOVE a vendor and then come back after their wedding and bash the heck out of them....now when a search is done~they look like a great vendor~that suckkks for the next girl doing the search who missed the bad update on that vendor and books anyway.
thats a good point...plus we all have our own opinions..and honestly..I dont think I've ever even eaten the cake at any wedding I've gone too! more than a bite anyway!

I always eat cake, its the best part sometimes if dinner stinks Ive had my share of good and bad cake, it really is all preference and opinion. you just need to try it out for yourself and go from there.
