scratch on non-stick

So i discovered that i somehow managed to get a semi nasty scratch on the bottom of my nonstick cookware. Is it still safe to use or do i need to throw it out?

Thanks.

I would say can it, but maybe you can call the Manufacturer?

Complain to the manufacturer but I wouldn't use it. Teflon is a chemical and I wouldn't want my family ingesting it.

pitch it. Teflon will flake off into your food. (FYI, even in an undamaged pan, teflon leaches off into every meal you make.... and no one knows the health consequences of that!)

Replace the frying pan with a good cast iron one... and then rub the pan down liberally with oil, bake in the oven for an hour. Then, whenever you use it, don't wash with detergent, just rinse w/ hot water, and heat on the stove to dry it out, and wipe a bit of oil on the surface. I know, labor intensive, but trust me, it's worth it...
For about a year or so, things will still stick to it, but eventually it will become the slickest surface in your kitchen.... good enough for omlettes! you can use metal utensils on it, and you will no longer be injesting teflon.

You won't get anything from the manufacturer, becuase they'll claim you used something other than the recommended plastic utensils... which would void the warantee

I wish.... I'm actually a biochemist/neuroscientist. I missed my calling to be a chef.... I swear I think my expertise lies in the kitchen rather than the lab sometimes....

since I have a med background, I really want to stress to everyone that I DO NOT TRUST TEFLON! Med studies show that every american tested has it in our blood and no one knows what it does. Replace those nasty pots with either stainless steel, enameled cast iron, or regular cast iron. Those are safe!

I agree! Teflon, even when it's not chipped or scratched, can leak into your food.

With the cast iron, it will last forever and generations can use it. Also, the more you use it, the more seasoned it gets and it will be great when cooking. And the big plus is that you can use any kind of utensil on it without damaging.
