If you had to pick one, which would you prefer? The raw bar/seafood boat at CH or a Vienese Hour?

Re: Seafood boat v. VH
IMHO, since you are getting married on a Sunday evening it is probably better for you to do the Seafood boat. The VH adds an additional hour onto your reception and a lot of people (some who may have work the next day or whatever) might not want to stay. I think you'll find that a lot of people leave early and won't really get the whole experience of the VH.
I feel that it would be 'more worth it' for you to do the Seafood boat at the CH. People rave about that so you know it will be a hit.
And honestly, even on Saturday night weddings (from what I've personally seen) by the time the VH hour comes- people are just ready to go home and a lot of them pick at the desserts and leave or leave as it is coming out... Then, when they do the last 'hurrah' of dancing afterwards- a lot of people are gone.
I hope that helps! Again, both are very nice and there are lots of desserts at the VH-- perhaps having a 'taste of VH' would be a good idea? We are having our cake along with other cakes passed around incase they don't like wedding cake with a chocolate fountain station- so, you get the best of both worlds in a way.
Good luck!

Definitely the seafood. During VH, people waste so much food because they are already full and just take a taste of everything and that's it.

SEAFOOD BOAT ALL THE WAY, VH IS NOT EVER NEEDED AS USUALLY YOU HAVE THE CAKE AND ANOTHER DESSERT INCLUDED ANYWAY, ITS KIND OF NOT NECESSARY, GUEST RAVE ABOUT SEAFOOD BOATS,

I would do seafood boat. It's always a big hit. Plus, some times VH ends up being a little bit of a waste b/c lots of folks are too stuffed to eat it.

Re: Seafood boat v. VH
i have to disagree with the other posts. I picked the VH over seafood b/c
#1--the seafood our RH was giving us only included shrimp and raw clam and raw oysters. My relatives will not eat raw clams and oysters...sooo I will pick shrimp cocktail and stuffed shrimp as passed o'deurves.
#2--There is so much going on during CH that with the stations and the passed o'deurves there is way too much food. it would be a waste of $15 per person plus tax!!!!
#3--our RH only gave us one station, our wedding cake and assorted cookies on the each table for dessert. I really don't like wedding cake so I need something to munch on.
Call your RH and find out what is included in both and then you can make your decision from there.
ETA: the VH is not an extra hour at our RH, it is just a dessert table that is announced and people can go as they please to get all the goodies.

I say vienesse...a lot of ppl don't enjoy most of the fish at the seafood boat...even though it is nice to look at. EVERYONE loves dessert! It stands out...while the seafood boat will look like its just included..JMO

This isn't true at every hall.
At my hall they do the VH in the cocktail hour room during the last hour of the reception ... so no extra time is added on and everyone who wants to can keep on dancin'.
I vote for VH because I am not a fan of seafood! And I looooveeee dessert!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a matter of preference so everybody is going to have a different opinion. You should just pick whichever one you'll enjoy more!!! Personally I'd rather have the VH than the seafood because I love desserts but not as crazy about seafood (although I wouldn't mind it either).

I vote Viennese. Not everyone likes seafood, but there will more than likely be a dessert that each person likes with the Viennese hour. Also, there are other ways to get seafood into your CH - for example, the wedding I was at yesterday had seafood paella at a station, and then passed around crab meat, shrimp and scallop scampi and seared tuna.

I think it definately varies from person to person. I am all about the seafood boat it loos amaizng and I love seafood as well as most of my family. We are going with the seafood but, we feel that by the end of the wedding besides cake guetss tend to be stuffed already and it may be a waste of $$ BUT Fox Hollow is giving us a free mini viennese hr since we are soplurging and getting the seafood boat which is awesome.
In conclusion, depends on what you prefer

I would go seafood. Maybe you can have your bakery bring in a small tray of pastries for each table. That is what we are doing to give a choice.

This isn't true at every hall.
True, not every Hall does it that way- but then it is not really considered the viennese HOUR... a lot of halls can roll it into your reception time.
It can be done either way but in the OP's case- she stated VH which is short for viennesse HOUR which is why I assumed she meant just that.
In any event- I don't know if i, and again this is just my honost opinion, would want time taken away from my reception to have a dessert set up-- in my mind i think i would worry that there would be a mass dessert run into another room during the last hour of my reception- where most of the dancing takes place-- and that is why, usually, the VH is an extra hour long.
Again, that's just what I thought by reading the original post but really it's personal preference.
Good luck in choosing- either way it's both nice and a special 'add on' which is great.

Def the VH. You can get seafood in the dishes at the CH
