Okay. I know I am WAAAAY early on this, but one thing that keeps running through my mind is seating arrangements. How is/did everyone place people?
I am thinking I want to seat the tables by people that would have the most fun together. I don't see a need to put my parents and sisters together - we see eachother all the time. I would rather put my sisters with my cousins, put my parents with their friends, and put all the children at the same table with their parents.
FH feels like people should be seated in order of importance. Which means his sisters and their kids sit with his parents at table 2. The next table is his first cousins at table 4. He said those closest to him should be seated at the lowest numbered table.
I would rather mix it up a bit.
Anyone have a similar dilema? What did you wind up doing?

I'm with you on the mix it up method. My FH feels the same way yours does though.
I told him for 'his side' he can do the arrangement to anywhich way he pleases. For my family there are people I know I can't sit together.... My parent's went through a nasty divorce and my mom is still with the guy she left my dad for.. so how I can I sit one at the 'top table' and have the other and the next. I'm just going to put people where I think they will have more fun. I'm not going to sit my 13 year old cousin with my grandparents, etc.. I'm going to place people with the ones they get along with best or where their friends are sitting. I might even ask a few if there is anyone they want to have at their table (like my mom, my dad, grandparents etc).
I'm not one for following traditions much, I see no problem with mixng it up. Besides I think people will spend more time on the dance floor anyway :)

Re: Seating Arrangements
Thanks for the response. I may just have to let him have 'his side'
But, with the way I want to do things, there isn't going to be a 'his side'. I would rather sit my parents with his parents (they get along great). Plus 6 other people their age they like. Then put my cousins with his cousins, all around the same age.
The only problem is that this would disperse the bridal party. One table would be my sisters. Another would be his best man. And yet another would be his groomsmen.....
Arrrgggh, I know I have a bajillion things to focus on right now, but I can't stop this stupid guest list thing from running around my head

Re: Seating Arrangements
Well we will have my bridal party at one table & all the groomsmen at another.
Other than that I'm giving him his side of the room on the chart and tell him to have fun.
He thinks I should have my mom, her BF, my grandparents at the first table next to our head table because my mom is the one who raised me. But I don't feel that's fair to my dad.. and because of their situation I can't sit them at the same table.

Re: Seating Arrangements
my parents are divorced, they get along very well, but they will each pick their own tables of who they want to sit with. My dad will pick his frineds and my mom will pick her sister BIL and cousins
FH's mom will pick who she wants to sit with. Most likely cousins. His sister and brother will sit with his friends most likely (unless his mother wants them with her)
That will leave other cousins, etc. to sit together and I will have my colleagues sit together, FH's colleagues sit together and my friends at another table and his friends at another table.
I will have another table just for my sister and step-sister and brother and spouses.
I think your parents should at least pick their own tables.
FH and I are sitting alone

Re: Seating Arrangements
We are going to mix it up only with FH and my friends, not with family.
Family who know each other best will be together (according to age too).
As for friends, we will mix our co-workers up. College friends who haven't seen each other in awhile will be together though.
