Seating at cocktail hour

Original post by ssdbk

Most of the catering halls that I have looked at tell me that the cocktail hour is for mingling, that it is better NOT to have enough tables and chairs for everyone, because you want people walking around, talking to others. Personally, I HATE getting food and drink at a cocktail hour, only to find that there is not place to sit. I'd prefer seating for all my guests. The cateres that I want to book is advising against this but they are willing to accommodate me and they do have the space. Since they are the ones with more experience, should I take their advice on this issue???? I agree with their advice on all other issues! so far!!!!

Re: Seating at cocktail hour

That was a HUGE pet peeve for me, I hate standing during the cocktail hour.

THat's another reason we picked FLoral Terrace. I also wanted to make sure there were enough bars in the area of the food so it wouldn't be an obstacle course to get a drink, plate of food and a seat.

I am glad that your hall is going to work with you on that- I don't think your idea was crazy as I feel its a valid concern.

Re: Seating at cocktail hour

Well, one of the main reasons that I like this hall is that right away, they told me that they were interested in any ideas that I may have gotten from other weddings, etc. They seem flexible. I just got nervous about the cocktail hour because I know that they like it the way they have done it and I wasn't aware of the options. Cross your fingers and I will have a signed contract and lots of details worked out this weekend!!!!!
