Seating cards versus chaperoned seating, what do you think?
I have a choice to have my guests seated by seating cards or by having hosts seat each person by referring to a master list. We are having a small wedding of around 100 or so people and the caterer says it does not take a long time and it is classy to seat them by chaperoned guests. What do you all think?

I prefer the card because I am always one of the last ones in (allowing the older relatives, etc.. in first) and having a maitre D seat me would take a while.
Also, I think the seating cards is one way where you can add some personal touch to your wedding - but if you plan on just doing plan cards - having the hall seat people may be a good way to save $$.

I actually get boring place cards from the hall for free so it is not a matter of cost, it is just a matter of which would be nicer. My fh thinks it would cause a back-up to have each guest seated but the caterer says that with 100 people it is not a big deal. Hmmmm another dilemma, add it to my list!

I would do the placecards because as Stef said it does take longer to get seated by somebody. Unless they will have more than one hostess to escort your guest to their seats faster. If you don't like your placecards you can always make your own.

I have only been to one wedding without seating cards, and there was a backup. It was a big wedding though. I think place cards can be a great second favor or a really nice way to add an extra detail to your reception if you think of something that fits your style. I'm a bit of a pack rat but I've saved lots of special placecards & holders over the years. There are so many great things you can do if you don't like the plain ones.

I prefer the seating cards - I attended one wedding where they did the chaperoned seating and there ended up being a line...

I once worked a wedding (I'm an ex-banquet manager) that did the chaperoned seating. They only had 60 people and there was a HUGE backup. I say- seating cards.

I can't imagine there not being a backup. I'd say seating cards

Def seating cards.. alot easier..and moreso especially for the older people who need to get to their seats right away...
If you want to do the chaperoned seating, how about only the immediate family?
