my mother started making 'her' seating chart... so she shows me yesterday and i tell her 'no, i don't like it.. i'm putting this person here'
basically we have my brothers BEST friend coming from TX.. he's coming for the day... I want them at the same table, my mother said she wants to sit with my brother- well DUH.. the table holds 12.. i have to move the aunts and uncles to other tables to sit with their children...
she then tells me that 'THIS group right here can NOT be split up'.. I'm looking.. its my mothers cousin, friends from VA, one friend from CT, and other family friends... i'm like 'well i wanted to put this person with that person and this cousin with his mother'... she's like.. 'well couple A knows couple B, and couple B was in couple C's bridal party, but D only knows couple A, but I can't split A & B'
um... well they ALL know me, so should I sit them all at my table??
honestly... I'm about to totally MIX it up... 3 couples from MY side with 3 couples from FHs side... at every table... no family sharing a table..
I told my mother after the eparty that I am doing the seating chart.. and if she doesn't like it, too bad. these people sit at the table for dinner... besides that, they can roam around and sit at other tables to talk and whatnot.
she wants me to sit my cousins from upstate that don't know ANYONE but their parents... with my friends, who's table is already full...

My side I did myself, DH's side I sat down with him and MIL.
ETA: I did run it by my mom before we finalized it. She asked me to make some changes but when I explained my reasoning behind what I did, she told me to leave it.

MIL did all of DH's side. Then I had my parents do their family and friends. I did all of our friends and co-workers and randoms. Then I just placed The tables accordingly.

I did my mom's side with my mother and aunt. I did my father's side and my friends myself and FMIL is doing FH's side.

I did it myself- thoughtfully- and it bit me in the you know what!
my mom and my aunt rallied against me after my wedding and it tainted the wedding so much for me... that I wish I had just let her do the whole thing and then when people got upset- it certainly couldnt fall on me. oh well. too late now. i guess seating is the one wedding task I failed at. Didn't matter how amazing the wedding was... if someone doesnt like where they are sitting for three lousy hours... it could ruin the whole thingggg

I did it myself, and then had to make two changes because 'these people wont sit next to them, these dont get along with her...' etc.. so I just switched their table.
But that is also if I had waited for MIL it would have been done the day we were putting in the seating chart..

My parents did our side of the family's seating, me and DH did our friends seating and MIL & SIL did DH's side....but we had a guest list of over 320 so there's no way i could have done that by myself!! especially keeping track of which family doesnt talk to this set and all the other politics !!

I got off easy with the seating chart and I'm thankful for that!
My Aunt said 'I don't care who's not speaking to each other and I don't care if this person doesn't want to sit with this person... they sit where they sit and they'll like it!' LOL
Fortunately, there were only 2 people (cousins of mine who are sisters) who aren't speaking to each other.

I had my mom do her side & my MIL do her side then FH & I each did our guests. We changed a few ppl on my MILs side...my mom was on point so I didn't have to touch hers. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. GL!

My mom and I did it together...DH has almost nobody come from his side (just my ILs and his sister and her wife) so we just ended up mixing everyone up...my mom's family with my dad's and my younger cousins together instead of with their parents and such. Everyone loved it.

I did it myself with a little input from FH and my mom. We didn't even bother asking his mother what she thought. In the end I just did it how I wanted.

I'm doing it by myself I pretty much know eveyone and the family dynamics. FMIL doesn't want to sit with her family but since the family is so small there's really no choice.

We did it ourselves. After I was done I called mom to tell her I put a neighbor at the family table as he is solo and at least vagely knows them. She was cool with it... I also put my stepson with them (he is an adult) and will hang out with the neighbor.
I didnt' open it up or else the aunts/cousins and stuff would want it their way...We just put people we thought would work good together. DONE. Remember, people eat at the table, but once the music starts people start roaming and pulling up chairs to 'visit'... Don't worry..It will be fine.
