My mom is already being a pain in the @$$ about the seating chart. We've only gotten about 20 responses back. We have ideas about how the seating will work but nothing official yet. I really didn't plan to even consider it until after the RSVP date.
She keeps saying 'you have to let me have my way with my guests' in a very childish way.
Frankly, of course our parents can choose who will sit at their tables, and I'll need their advice on who to put some of the older aunts/uncles/cousins with.
There are some cousins/friends that I want to seat in a way that she is already against and I haven't even started this officially. She wants cousins from each side seated together regardless of age. (Our friends and cousins range from 18 to 40) I want our friends and cousins to sit with people their age and I think they'll have more fun that way.
Should I just give in? Should I stand firm? Should I just let her have her say and then do my seating chart how I want to?
Oh and BTW she's not paying for the wedding.
and so it begins...

Re: Seating Chart questions
do it how you want - take some feedback but in the end the only way that really amtters is how you feel about it

Re: Seating Chart questions
damn! good luck, patti! my both sets of parents weren't too keen on seperating ppl also. i wanted this but they want that.. that.. and that way. they really stressed me out because it felt like i was losing control over my wedding. i had plenty of other things to worry about - i thought so i ultimately let them have it 'their way.' i just had my bridal party mingle a lot. get everyone used to their faces and names. in the end it worked out. people weren't nervous to approach each other for a dance or a conversation. =)

Re: Seating Chart questions
I'm surprised that she's like this when she's not even paying for the wedding. I told my parents from the beginning that I am paying for the wedding and I was going to do the seating and everything else that went along with it. I didn't have a problem. Maybe remind her whos paying for these guests to be there, maybe she'll change her tune.

Re: Seating Chart questions
I think your mom can make suggestions as to where people should sit... and maybe tell you who she wants at her table... but I think you are FH need to be by yourselves somewhere and do the seating... otherwise you will have too many people tell you what to do...
