Seating chart questions. . .

Seating chart questions. . .

We're in the process of starting our seating arrangement and are wondering if you traditionally make a brides side and groom's side of the room? Also, the parents and bridal party usually go closest to the bride and groom table (we're sitting alone, not with our BP) right? How does it work with the BP, obviously they're not all going to fit at one table, but are we supposed to try to keep them all together as much as possible? Our BP are not all from the same groups so they might have other not BP people they'd rather sit with . . . Is it weird if they're scattered around the room?

We went to a wedding where the brides family and grooms family were on different sides and we never saw the grooms family. After going to that wedding FH and I agreed we were not going to do it that way. The parents def sit the closest to you guys and the bridal party you can really put them anywhere. It's not odd the split them up. We went to another wedding where some people from the BP were at our table even though we were not in the BP. We are very close to the bride and groom though even though we were not in the BP.

usually, yes, a brides side and a grooms side. if you'd like to mix them, i think thats great! people can get acquainted.
for the BP, you don't have to keep them all together.
i'm not sitting my 15 year old cousin with his 30 year old, liquored up boat buddies.
you can absolutely seat the BP with their families or respective friends :)
hope this helps!

We're probably having a brides side and grooms side to the extent possible (my side is WAY bigger than his). The family goes closest to the bride/groom (parents, grandparents, etc.). And we're also going to split up the BP - I'd rather them be comfortable and sitting with people they know.

I've been to so many weddings and I see it differently. In the end, it really depends on what you want. I am personally not having a his and her side b/c FH will only have a few tables opposed to my side. Also, I have some friends who cannot sit next to each other, so they will be on opposite sides.

So I say....Your Day, Your way.

We did a 'mom's side' and 'dad's side' of the hall and the groom's side was on my dad's side and the Wedding Party was actually spread out amongst the guests -- kinda like each couple / member of the WP 'hosted' their own tables depending on who they were with.

I thought it worked out really well! No one was that far away from each other, but my parents (who do not get along) were kept far enough apart that they weren't uncomfortable.

Do whatever you'd like. Just make sure to get the schematic from your BM so you follow your hall's set table #s -- otherwise they won't know where to put the chairs!

I agree - do as you wish. I didnt care where the fam went as long as they were sitting in the vicinity of each other. However my mother being momzilla demanded to have 'his and her' sides and since shes payin I couldnt fight it lol...but I dont think it matters and I doubt anyones gonna care. As for the bridal party I suggest putting them at tables with people they are comfortable with and know.

I don't think its weird at all. I know my parents & FIL's are going to want all their friends & family members in the furthest tables from the band so that means they will all prob be sitting the closest to us. Which also means they will probably be sitting on opposite sides of the room. I too have BP members who are not all from the same social group so I am planning on sitting them w/the ppl they know well. I think that you and FH should do what makes sense to you w/taking in consideration the comfort level of your guest where you seat them (i.e. dont sit you Grandma next to the band) but the truth of it all is that you cant make everyone happy, you have a 50 / 50 chance that some one will not be happy w/where they are sitting and actually make a stink out of it.

HTH!

I am doing what is best for our situation. I think when it comes to table placement you really need to think about who you are invited & where it is best to sit them.
I know Aunt So & So doesn't want to sit near the band so I am more concerned over that then anything else. Having one 80 year old women complaining to everyone all night about how loud the music is, will become very annoying.
