so we've already agreed that FMIL will do her guests' (friends and family) seating charts, my mom will do her guests, and FH and I will do our friends.
but should i give a table number limit to each of our moms? like if FMIL had 55 guests, should i tell her that she can have 5 tables max? or should i just let her give me what she has and i can squeeze other people in if necessary?

Re: seating question
I would give an amount of tables otherwise you could wind up with a bunch of tables with 5 people. JMO

so you're going the 'i don't trust her intelligence' route
i guess that would work best

I totally agree. It's best to lay it out from the get go, otherwise you'll end up with a lot of tables with not that many people, and more cp's to pay for.

Re: seating question
Your hall should tell you the min and max allowed at each table and just rely that info to your mother and fmil.

I would definitely give a max amount, in the long run it'll give you less work!

Re: seating question
FH and I are doing everything ourself and then pretty much just getting the 'stamp of approval' from our mom's.

Re: seating question
I had MIL do her tables, no limit, and my mom do her table no limit, but I specifically told them they had to have a minimum of 10 guests at each and a max of 16 (which would make the table oval). MIL didn't want any of her guests at oval tables, but ended up having to compromise. Once both of them were done, and my husband and I were done, we placed guests at spots where we felt they would be most comfortable. It took about 4 hours total, and then MIL changed her mind about 2 or 3 people in the days after. Not as bad as I thought.

Re: seating question
i'm having the most horrible experience with this...and i'm 4 days out from my wedding....
we gave each of the moms however many tables they needed to do their sides of the family, and fh and i did our friends.
well each of the moms ended up with a couple of tables of 5, 6, or 7 and fh and i ended up with a 3...... now bc these tables would all look RIDICULOUSLY empty (since the tables seat 10-12) we had to group some of them together. my mom compromised when fh and i wanted to put his 3 co-workers with 6 of my first cousins.....but my FMIL is throwing WW3 over having to put 5 of her teens with 5 of my teens...........she basically doesnt want the 2 families to mix....lovely right?
i have no advice for you here...im just wishing u luck and i hope that you're FMIL is more understanding than mine.

Re: seating question
That's a GREAT idea! I didn't think of that. So this way people don't set up less then 10-12 people at a table.
