I ordered my dress in white (only came in white or ivory) but now I'm worried it won't look good on my skin tone. I keep reading that white isn't very flattering on most skin tones and that ivory usually looks best. The ivory dress I tried on in the store looked a little yellowish on me so I went with white. Its a Maggie Sottero dress and its silky satin material. Do you think the white will be too much? Trying to see if I should call them and tell them to change the color. It may be too late. TIA
I think its a misnomer that white is unflattering - I have never seen anyone look sallow while wearing white - I think its merely a matter of preference. If ur very worried call them up - somettimes they don't order right away...

Re: second-guessing dress color
Well if we're going to go and say that white is unflattering on most skin tones then I'm going to point out that many people don't wear white because they claim it'll make them look fat. You could try it on in different shades because maybe you won't like it better and if you do, see what can be done!

You went with your gut, so trust that. You didn't like how the ivory looked on you, so don't let anyone tell you that ivory looks best when you know for a fact that isn't true for you. I know it's so easy to second guess every decision If you want to give yourself peace of mind, go to the bridal store and try on an ivory and a white Maggie dress in that same fabric and see what you prefer.

Re: second-guessing dress color
When I was looking at dresses I found that every designer interprets the colors slightly differently. My dress is 'ivory' but it really looks more like diamond white...other 'ivory' dresses I tried on are true ivory and others are IMO almost yellow. If you tried on the white in your dress and liked it I would not worry because the shade of white was obviously flattering on you.

Thank you!
Thanks everyone for making me feel better about my decision. I'm very indecisive and always second-guess myself. I'm sure the white will be fine.

I thought that white wouldn't look good on me...but I was determined to order a white dress. Well, it turns out even though I'm pale white still looked great.

Try on a Maggie Sottero dress in white and ivory in the same material and see which you like better.

Re: second-guessing dress color
i really couldnt tell the difference between the white and ivory dresses against my skin. i ultimately bought an ivory dress but its not very yellowish. there were some designers who make their ivory more yellow, maybe maggie is one of them? i tried on a few diamond white dresses and i loved the color- to me it just looked white. go with your gut!

They only had that one dress in that kind of fabric. She doesn't make a lot of dresses in the fabric. I think its called charmeuse.

ITA I feel like the idea that 'white is unflattering' is just something that a few people said somewhere in the world, and then it exploded into a big thing.

Maggie's usually come in 3 colors: white, Diamond White and Ivory. I have yet to find a Maggie that doesn't offer the 3 choices. are you 100% sure the diamond white isn't offered?
Her white is extremely stark white and her ivory is on the yellow side. The diamond white is just in the middle.
if i had a choice between the 2 though, i'd go for her white :)

Re: second-guessing dress color
I think the Ivory dresses in the store look more yellow than they really are. Probably from a thousand plus people trying it on everyday, also it looks yellower when its up against a white dress. when i was in the store the lady let me bring the ivory dress to the window by the natural light and i loved it!!! at first i was very hesitant becuase i didn;t want to wear a dress that looks like someone smoked a million cigarettes in lol . But in the natural light ivory looks real rich. I ordered my maggie sottero in ivory. Not sure if this helps lol

ITA.. i read that everywhere too that pale girls should wear ivory.. did you try on any white dresses in the store? I felt the dress popped so much more when it was white, and i didn't feel washed out

I tried on a couple of white dresses but they weren't Maggie's. All of hers I tried on were diamond white which I loved. I'm sure the white will be okay- just need a little tan
