secret thoughts about my BM dresses

Original post by FutureMrsCarrieri

I went with Tiffany Blue and ivory for my BM dresses.
I tried to pick something that perfectly matched my wedding colors, was affordable, and came in different/coordinating styles because I didn't want all the dresses to match exactly. We went with Alfred Angelo.

Well they came in and I HATE them. It's too late to change them so I'll live with it but everytime I look at them (they're stored in my walk-in closet), I wish i could start all over. The dresses I really wanted were $300 but i didn't want to do that to the bp -- add in shoes, alterations, and hair and I felt it was just too much.
So I'm stuck.
I'll try to post pics but if they don't show, look in my album called bridemaid doj. The pics show the dresses in cornflower blue. Picture the dress with the same ivory top but with tiffany blue skirts, ribbon and piping.

I think they are very pretty. If you aren't feeling them anymore, I'd think about doing a bright pink flower with maybe some yellow to play on the brightness of the Tiffany Blue. I think that it will be fun to see a differnt color flower with the blue.

Do you think a bright pink flower will look good? The florist suggested a pale pink rose or cream colored roses with green hydrengea. I thought about adding yellow but the florist ( who is very artistic) said that yellow is probably not the best color ( I kind of liked the yellow).FH isn't feeling the pink but I think it might be better than the creamy colored flowers.

This could drive a woman mad! lol

I'm beginning to have some hope!

Someone today had posted a bouquet with really pretty cream colored flowers. I can't remember who it was. I don't think I would go with yellow. I can't think of anything off-hand, but maybe something in a violet shade (mixed with cream/ivory) to offset the light blue. I can picture these flowers but I can't think of what they're called. When you get a chance, go on the Knot. They changed the set-up of pictures a little. When I went on yesterday, they had a breakdown of all different flowers so you could kind of see pictures by flower and color. I think I would stay with pastels, but just mix in deeper shades so they stand out against the light blue.

Oh, and I like the sound of the cream flowers with green hydranges. Try and find pictures...maybe that will help you get a better idea!

I completely forgot about the galleries on the knot! You know, today the florist pulled out a deep violet flower and I dismissed it because I thought it was too dark but maybe it could work.

Do you think I'd look like a loon if i brought one of the dresses to the flowershop with me?

I think that yellow with cream would be really nice.

Here's a pretty one......minus the ivy IMO lol

By the way, I just want to say that I think that is really sweet of you to take into consideration the financial situation that you would've put your BP through if you went with the other dress you wanted. Not a lot of people care and I know that your friends must respect you for being such a kind person.

Take this as a fun challenge......research to find ideas and just like a puzzle, it will all finally come together. Tiffany blue is gorgeous. Think about dying your shoes to match them as your something blue. Have fun with it!

Why, thank you! Everyone has things going on -- why make things harder than they have to be? One of my sisters keeps telling me not to worry about that stuff but I don't think that would be right.

I'm going to do a lot of research, find a great solution and then I'm going to stop obsessing :)

By the way, I already dyed my shoes tiffany blue. I seriously love them but I'm thinking about getting a second light ivory pair for the pics. I'm also having the florist use the same Tiffany blue ribbon from my invitations to hand tie my bouquet. He's even going to use the same rhinestone buckle so that it matches the invite.

Great idea! I would wear the ivory for the ceremony and take out the blue for the reception. People will do a double-take and wonder, 'Did she change her shoes? I don't remember them being blue' LOLLLLLLLLL

I like the idea of the blue on the invites and bouquet. I think that you should only use a little bit of the Tiffany blue here and there...stick neutral with things like ribbons and stuff....subtle pops of it will be nice, but not too much. JMO of course lol

Did you consider yellow calla BOKS?

Maybe flower pins in ivory, or shawls?
Perhaps even hair ornaments.
To be honest, everyone looks at the bride, so don't worry too much.

Re: secret thoughts about my BM dresses

i really think we all go through this, and if not about the BM dresses then about something else.

I had major BM dress regrets for a while (my girls tried on 3 dresses, fell in love with one, it came in a blue I thought I liked well enough -- not too dark, not too light -- and so we ordered it. 2 girls said they wanted it to have straps so while i greatly prefer strapless we picked a dress with spaghetti straps). the more i looked back at pictures the more i hated the straps, i thought it made the dresses look juvenile, not elegant, i was worried about the color, etc.

well, the dresses came in, i hated the straps even more, but luckily my girls did too and the seamstress said it was OK to remove them!!! one girl who wanted to straps is no longer in the BP and the other (my MOH) agreed to take them off, and has them detachable in case she wants to add them back later.

I'm a little worried about the color still (love the way it looks in natural light, a little more questionable about how it looks indoors) but I love the dresses strapless and I'm much happier. So happy, in fact, that I'm keeping the extra BM dress for myself and I'm going to wear it to a wedding in 09 (the bride already suggested it!)

Is there something in particular you dont like about the dresses? maybe it's possible to tweak it a little

I think that I was trying to be 'different'. Everyone I know thought I should go with cornflower blue so I went with tiffany blue (aka pool). I didn't realize how many other brides went with this color. So much for originality. Then I saw how bright and glaring Tiffany Blue can be so I went with separates and paired it with ivory on top. Then I decided to have each bm have a different style. In the end, when I saw them, I was like ***??!!! was I thinking??

Now I can't figure out what flowers to get with them and I'm so annoyed. I just hate that feeling like people are going to talk sh!t about my choice.

On a happier note -- the brides on here rock and I'm seriously thinking about pink flowers for the bm's bouquets. It might look good. Would it be weird to print out large pics of pink flowers and hold them up to the dress? lol

can you bring a dress with you to the florist? i brought a yard of our bm fabric to the florist and we paired it with all kinds of flowers. my grandma even draped it over herself like a toga and modeled everything!

i think the pink will look great

omg -- that's what I told FH! I told him that I'm going to bring the dress to the florist and he looked at me like I was nuts, lol.
I did bring a swatch and the ribbon that matches exactly to our appointment but the actual dress would really drive it home.

I think when you see the whole ensemble it will be really pretty. Bright pink flowers against the blue & ivory would be really nice plus hair, make up and jewelry!!

And BTW, I printed pics of eggplant BM dresses and printed out color pics of different bouquets, cut them out and pasted them to the dresses!!!

Worked out great!!! It was sort of like playing with paper dolls!

that works!
Should I take a pic of the florist holding up flowers to the dress? For my scrapbook? lol

I'm laughing but I'm really thinking about doing it

i had pix with the fabric (very helpful -- i threw in one of grandma, which i'll prob take down in a few) and i also cut/paste flowers and superimposed them on pictures of the dresses

by the way -- I really like the color combo you picked. Those flowers really pop against that blue.
