Seeing Groom before Wedding

Original post by Bridex100

I just realized that if we have an evening wedding, we'll be taking wedding pictures during the day since we would definitely want daytime shots.

Is this the norm??

Shouldn't the groom see you for the first time AT the wedding ceremony?

I'm keeping the tradition, I want FH to sse me for the first time when I'm walking down the aisle. I will take pics after, I have enough ttime between my ceremony and reception.

This is exactly how I feel...i would rather miss cocktail hour and capture that one moment...

We saw each other before hand and it was the best thing!! I loved it!!

I'm doing pictures before the ceremony too. Its just too pratical not too, IMHO. I've heard of when brides have just got half their shots done, like the ones with their BP and the groom with his. Then they do the together ones after the ceremony, but your having your wedding at night so I suggest you just get them done during the day and not worry about it.

I'm not taking pics before hand because it is very important to FH that the first time he sees me is when the church doors open. I think it's sweet that he is excited about that moment...makes me tear up!

Something to keep in mind...the tradition of not seeing the groom before the ceremony dates back to arranged marriages, where they would not allow the bride and groom to see each other at all until they were at the altar, so that neither one could back out!!!

With that in mind, we're taking pics before the ceremony. Also because we have no time in between the ceremony and CH to take pics at all.

It all depends on what you want to do. If you want to have your pictures during the day, then see your FH. If you want to be more traditional then don't see him. Plenty of brides and grooms nowadays are seeing each other before the ceremony.

well these days im sure none of us are having arranged marriages!! So if it helps the timeframe its a great idea, i have no problems, even though i am supersticous, on taking pics before, its not like we are all virgins and having arranged marriages. my parents are divorced and they didnt see eachother before, and i dont think getting divorced has anyting to do with seeing or not seeing, but everyone has their own choice, but no one should feel their choice is wrong cause its preference

I thought that I was the only one who knew this!!! That's part of the reason I didn't care if we saw each other. I think it's nice if you can wait for the ceremony but I don't believe it's bad luck.

I think the same thing with the veil over the brides face and the father handing his daughter to her new caretaker....even tho I think these have become sweet moments and nice traditions ... I don't want the veil over my face and will have both parents walking me down the asile. I'm half Jewish so that's Jewish trad but even if I wasn't I would do this!

Now that that mini-rant is over- do what you want and honor the traditions you want to honor. A few of our family members and friends don't agree with us seeing each other but our BP couple hadn't heard of the & attending cocktail hour either!

To each their own! It's special b/c it's your day!!

I am doing my pictures before the ceremony. I was totally against it in the beginning but it makes the most sense and FH really doesn't want to miss the cocktail hour!!

I think it's worth it to see each other ahead of time, and it was helpful to me because DH was able to try to calm me down with all the stressful things going on.

DITTO!!! I enjoyed spending the minutes before with him.
We were VERY untraditional in that we even got ready at the same house and took the limo together but to us its just signaled that we were entering into marriage truly together

DH was completly against seeing eachother before hand. But every photographer toldus it is the best thing to do. YOu get to take 'most' of your pics and then go to cocktail hour. WE had 3 families to tkae pics with so we only had 20 minutes in our cocktail hour, but it was better then nothing, i think its the best thing. Our photographer set up a 'special moment' when DH walked in and saw me and cptured the whole thing on film, unfortunatly the video guy wasnt htere yet, but we still both cryed our eyes out.

My fiancee and I have agreed to see eachother and take pictures before the wedding. We are doing everything in one place which left no gap for picture taking. Our only other option is to miss the cocktail hour, and we did not want to do that.

I really don't think it's a big deal. Now a days people do eveyrthing else before they get married, why not make your life a little easier on the day of your wedding.

I'm taking pics before the wedding because my reception is immediately following the ceremony. I don't think seeing my FH before the wedding will take anything away from the 'moment'. If anything it'll be better because it will be just me and him and I'll get to kiss him and hug him and talk to him rather than walking down the aisle and not being able to do anything until after the ceremony. I'm excited to do it.

That's a nice way of looking at it. We are taking pics before the ceremony. It took me months to convince FI that we wouldn't have enough time for pics if we don't. It turns out that we have to see each other for the signing of the ketubah anyhow so it's a moot point

our cermony is at 10 in the morning so no, we wont being seeing each other...and I am glad, we have waited SOOO long for this, I cant wait to see him at the end of the aisle waiting for me

Re: Seeing Groom before Wedding

lots of people take pics beforehand these days. we are planning on it - esp bc we are having ceremony and reception at the same spot.... we would miss the entire CH and probably still be rushed if we waited until then to do it. We are planning a 'seeing each other for the first time' moment that our photographer will capture. I think it will be just as special!

I'm going with tradition. It's always been my dream to see my FH expression when he see's me for the first time walking down the aisle. But then again, thats just me.

do whatever you are comfortable with. fh and i are seeing each other before the ceremony because our cocktail hour is immediately following...and we don't want to miss a thing!

We are seeing eachother before the ceremony to take pictures. It all depends on your personal preference. Yes, it is traditional to not see each other until the ceremony, but many brides and grooms are seeing eachother before these days.

This is what we are doing.

Re: Seeing Groom before Wedding

everyone is different...but for me...no way, no how am i seeing FH before the ceremony. when the doors open and i'm being escorted down the aisle...that is the exact moment i want to see him and vice versa.

i know it's 'practical' to see each other before hand and take pics...but i just hate that idea. then again, i'm also going the 'traditional' route and not attending the CH...we will be announced for the first time at the reception.
