Seeking affordable Photo & DJ for winter wedding (looking from Boston!)

Hi ladies,

I've been researching different photographers and DJs online, and have been able to get information from some of them via e-mail. Ideally, I'd like to go in and meet with potential vendors in person to discuss specific pricing options; however I live in Boston currently! I'm hoping some of you could forward me some pricing information that you've received for photographers and DJS that you might recommend.

I'd love to stick to a budget of around $2500 for basic photography - including two photographers if possible, a CD/DVD with rights to all photos, and an engagement session (I'm planning to print pictures myself and make my own albums, and am not looking for too many extras). I'm also seeking a basic DJ package around $1000-1500, though the one add-on I definitely want to include is a photobooth for my guests!

Does anyone have any recommendations and/or prices that they could share with me? Also for any brides-to-be who are having their weddings during the off-season - have you found that there's room to negotiate prices for a winter wedding?

Def check out Fade to Black for photography and photobooth! Gil is awesome to work with and he will customize a package to fit your budget! I booked him back in 2011 so I am not sure if his prices have changed since then but I def recommend contacting him.

For DJ check out Ultimate Sound DJ. I booked them early 2012 but if their prices are the same, their basic package will fit your budget.

In some cases, venues lower prices for off season but I didn't encounter any other vendors who had off season pricing. You're in January, so you shouldn't come across this, but I had more than one band raise their prices because of holiday parties.

You should definitely call Gil from Fade to Black for photography - he's very quick with emails and can design a package to work within your budget. I think they're a phenominal company. We're doing photo/video/photobooth/zap shots from them.

For a DJ I looked at After Hours (Phil) and LI Sound (Chris) and think you'd be very happy with either. They're all very competetive so you can usually get them to include more to win your business. We went with LI Sound based solely on the 'jive' we felt with them, which I feel is what it all ultimately comes down to. We're doing DJ/MC/White System/Percussion/Up Lighting/TV Screens from them.

I've seen a lot of positive reviews of Twelfth Night and I know they offer a la carte options, so I'm hoping to meet with them too. Does anyone know of any other photographers in my price range who would customize a basic package like the one I described?

I'll look more into the DJS recommended here too!

With that budget, I would definitely recommend Markland Photography: http://www.marklandphotography.com/

The owner of the company is Kevin Markland, and he's fantastic. Young and enthusiastic, super laid back and very talented.

But really I think you should decide on what type of style you're looking for. Do you like sort of risque wedding photos, conservative poses or candid shots...

I personally like the photojournalistic style, which is more candid and is what Markland does. If you prefer risque photos, Patken is great and very reasonably priced. If you prefer traditional poses with fun photoshop effects, Jeffrey Studios (Alan is the owner) is great and very reasonably priced... but it really comes down to the style. Hope that helps :)

Ken Hild should be able to work in your price range for photo.

For a DJ, I think that price range is definitely doable, but the photobooth would probably bring you over. The cheapest I've ever seen any photobooths are $600, but its usually more like $800-$1000.

I met with a bunch of photographers and I found that Fade to Black and Thomas Paul were great with creating packages to fit your budget. I booked with Thomas Paul based on the style of photography and have nothing but positive things to say!

First I wanted to say that I totally sympathize with long-distance planning! It's tough when you need to meet with vendors who are only available during the week. Most vendors now have their own facebook page in addition to their main website. I found that to be very helpful, especially when looking for a photographer!

Anyway, I used Patken. They were recommended by my venue and tons of LIW brides rave about them. If you're okay with having only one photographer, they will be well within your budget. Their most basic package comes with the engagement session, some enlargements, photo album and CD. They do a nice balanced mixed of traditional and modern/edgy.

Check out frank from fm entertainment. He is great and will set up a private showcase for you to view over the Internet. That's what we did bc my fh lives in Canada. He is responsive nice and exactly what we were looking for. He also has a photo booth special as well for 600 when u get a dj package. Fm me for more info. I'm using North Island for Photo/Video. I don't know how affordable they are, they were a little out of my budget for the package deal but I loved their work before I started looking and when I got there, I fell in LOVE! Maybe they could work with you? They're amazing!

I kind of knew who I wanted off the bat, but just to be sure I also called DejaVu, Lighthouse, Patken and Thomas Paul. All three were wonderful and offered very affordable packages for just photo!! I don't have the quotes anymore because I only kept the info on what I booked, but definitely look into them. I'm sure they'd be willing to work with you and I don't remember the quotes being too high!

We're using Genesis for DJ. It's the house DJ for Sand Castle and Floral Terrace. If you call, request Fabio - he's awesome and their packages are very affordable! Best of luck!
