Ok weird and embarrassing question...but I was wondering if anyone newly married (or any of you future brides) are requesting that your photog not shoot you from certain angles, focus on certain body parts etc. I ask b/c i hate my arms and have a complex about them. i don't want a whole bunch of pics with unflattering shots of them. Did anyone have a conversation with their photog about this kind of an issue?

that's an interesting question. i don't like the way i look at certain angles either. i wonder if anyone has discussed this with a photographer. I don't want 500 shots that I don't like!

exactly! I feel ridiculous bringing it up, but i've been thinking about it alot latley. It's the one time where we've hired a professional to shoot the most important day of our lives....i want to like the pics! granted i hate myself in all pics.

I actually did talk to my photographer about this, because I'm really picky about angles too.... We will probably go over some things at the engagement photo session so that I feel more comfortable....And he also promised to photoshop certain things I don't like out of the pictures. He was really understanding but also stressed that if I will be hung up on those little things on my wedding day, it can show in my pictures and video. We'll see how the engagement photos go....

I would discuss it, but try not to get too hung up. An engagement shoot is probably a good way to get comfortable in front of the camera. Think about those posing tricks to minimize what you don't like (like the chin dip!). Also, they are professionals....they should know how to shoot a flattering photo

Re: self-consious/photography
I didnt bring it up to the photographer-though I felt the same way. During out initial meeting and conversations afterwards he had mentioned that he is careful to make sure that you look fabulous in your pictures and that I cant see what he is seeing but he promised I would be happy. I have to say I was very happy.
Maybe just let your photographer know what issues you have-whether it be your arms, your profile, etc. and see what advice he can give you

never really thought of this ... Personally, I would just let them shoot and do their thing. They'll be taking pics from all angles.

I would mention it, it can't hurt. And you're right, you won't have a bunch of shots where all YOU see is your arms.
You should always speak to your vendors about something like that, they aren'tmind readers. That's how I found the perfect person for hair and make-up, I opened my mouth!

Re: self-consious/photography
i think you SHOULD have a convo w/ your photog about your insecurities. it gives them a better idea of how to shoot the kinds of pictures that are going to make you, the client, happy. i wouldn't make a set of rules or anything because that could cause your photog to miss important shots, but it's better if that person has all the information. also don't forget that you will have a big role in deciding which pics make it into the album, so even if the shots exist, no one has to see them unless you want them too.
also, try not to be so hard on yourself

If you have enough discomfort to think about it...ask them. PLUS, they will have tricks to make you look your best.

I didn't have the conversation yet but I will. I HATE HATE HATE My arms and I don't want to see my fillings if they take pictures of me with my mouth open and my front tooth is bonded so I HATE that too. I'm sure a lot of people have weird requests like that.

And a lot of places will 'touch up' pictures as much as you want.
Let me put it this way: my family look like MODELS without makeup in the photos, but not so much that it's not recognizable...I was even thinking it's cheaper & easier than tooth whitening.

I am def. going to bring it up to the photographer about certain aspects that I am not a fan of maybe he can avoid it. If you aren't comfortable with something then def. talk with them, they should be willing to do what you want!

Re: self-consious/photography
I am definitely telling my photog to try and not photograph me from my right side...I broke my nose when I was young and have a bump in it that looks wicked when shot from a bad angle on my right side. I know its impossible not to shoot my right side, but I will give them the heads up and hope they take more on my left sid

Re: self-consious/photography
I would discuss it, why not! I'm sure other people have shared their issues with them before and it does help the photographer to know what you like or don't like. Not to mention you are paying a descent amount of $$ on photos so you shouldn't feel funny about bringing up things like that.

IMO you should let him know about your concerns. He is providing a service you need to be happy with, therefore should do his best to accomodate your requests. I'm sure your photos will come out beautiful!
