semi wedding related check...

semi wedding related check...

So once I got engaged I vowed to conquer my fear of eyes and learn how to put contacts in. I refuse (just personal preference) to walk down the asile with glasses on and originally I just said I'll just see things blurry I quickly realized I want to see every moment of my wedding and without my glasses on everything a foot of further away looks to me as if I was drunk and is very blurry... SO that being said after a great deal of anxiety and crying I have been wearing contacts now for 5 days. And to explain how big this fear is, I willingly failed in a Cosmetology class because I couldn't even allow someone to put mascara on me. BUT I have overcome this and am proud to say I am wearing contacts!!!

Just had to share

You're like my sister. She has a terrible habit of leaving them in. Don't do it!! Lol. My mom had a coworker who didn't for over the course of 10 years at long lengths of time. She had to get them surgically removed! And banned from wearing them :-O

That being said to the original poster, good for you for conquering your fear! I wouldn't wear my glasses on my wedding day either. This reminds me, gotta stock up on more pairs of contacts so I don't run short right before the wedding!

I am so dreading this!!! I am going most likely next month to go for contacts so I can get use to them (as well as my eyes) I was not going to wear my glasses because I so don't like the spotlight - which would be good, lol- but I want to see my FH when he sees me for the first time and he is just going to look fuzzy along with everything else. Hahahahaha I have to make an appointment and I keep putting it off. So next month I am going to set a date and bite the bullet. Staying positive that all goes well and giving myself more than enough time for my eyes to get adjusted to them. I just have one question - I know I am going to tear up at my wedding and I want to know, will they fall out. Ugggghhhhhhh

If I can do it anyone can... I seriously would start to cry just thinking about the idea and if someone touched their eye I would almost get sick BUT I but on my big girl panties : ) and did it. That doesn't mean I'm a pro but I can put them in and take them out all by myself in under a half hour too ; )

When I first called to make the appointment they were like do you want to come in now we can squeeze you in and I almost started having an anxiety attack at the thought so I made an appointment for a few months later and then each night I would make FI show me when he was putting them in or taking them out to help desensitize myself... Good luck

Oh and I don't have insurance so after paying the hefty amount I did I was determined to overcome my fear

Congrats! You'll get used to wearing them. Just make sure you always wash your hands before putting them in and taking them out.

Yay lol I just never take mine out since I'm terrible at that part

the other day I got them out in under 3 minutes and I told everyone I saw, it typically takes me about 10-15... Putting them in seems to be equally time consuming.

I figure if I can do contacts for a few years then maybe I can work up the courage to get the lasik

Question - Does it feel like you have something in your eye? My FMIL said she tried them but she has a stigmatism in one eye and it just did not work for her. She said she would go with me, but my FMIL is not very demonstrative and I am going to need someone to hold my hand and I WILL MAKE HER HOLD MINE. For some reason she lets her guard down with me and I think this will just be the icing on the cake. Hahahhahahaha

Good for you but I'll stick to my plan of things being blurry. Nothing goes in my eye!

Honestly I don't feel them at all... BUT because it's such a psychological thing with me I had to do a great deal of self talk to convince myself that I can't feel them... I'm still getting used to them and only leaving them in the recommended time as per the dr office each day increasing an hour. So today will be 8 hours and I'm doing okay. I am more conscious not to rub my eyes cause I'm scared I'll move it or something. But I had them in this morning and was watching the today show and started crying (they had a mothers day thing that was sweet) and nothing happened to them...

Also I was more comfortable going alone. I felt like if I had someone there my anxiety would increase, it's all about the dr and the nurse or assistant. My assistant stayed with me for 2 hours after because you have to prove you can put them in and take them out at least two times by yourself and the assistant was som amazing that I booked my follow up appointment around her schedule...

Good luck and let me know how it turns out

Haha that was what I said originally but things are really really blurry without my glasses and I couldn't imagine not being able to see my soon to be husband as I walked down the aisle...

Although it is nice to know other people have this fear and I wasn't alone in the world :)

Thanks I'm obsessed with following the directions, I would have heart faliure if I got an infection in my eye. My step daughter to be had pink eye not to long ago and I thought about going to stay with my mom so I wouldn't get it. Seriously terrifed of eyes so thanks for the tip, hands will ALWAYS be clean :)

Yay for you!! Believe me, I know what a big deal it is. I used to work for Davis Vision and I was the contact lens assistant who would teach all new contact lens wearers how to put them in, take them out, and care for them. I loved that job, it was always such a great feeling seeing people so proud of themselves for accomplishing it.

Congrats!!! I remember when I first learned how to do mine 12 years ago it took me FOREVER to learn to put them in at the drs office and FOREVER to take them out. All this time later I can do it while driving (yes I know not safe but it was an emergency thankfully we were in stopped traffic for a minute)
