Send Get Well Vibes to Jenna! UPDATE

Hi Everyone,

I'm Liz, Jenna's MOH. She's lost her voice (!) and her wedding is on 6/6. Please send get well vibes to Jenna so that she has her voice back to say 'I do.'

Also, can anyone recommend any good remedies for her ailment? I know she'll see this post and read the suggestions, so bring 'em on!

5/26/09 Update

I spoke to her briefly today and she's feeling a little bit better. She's not sick per say; it's just a nasty manifestation of her allergies. So, she's doing well and taking some medication resting. Hopefully another couple of days will do the trick!

Thanks ladies!

Put yourself on vocal rest for a day, if at all possible. You have almost a full two weeks to recover before 'I do,' so I guarantee that if you take care of it now, you'll be okay on the 6th!!!

Also, I would suggest going to the doctor to rule out strep throat or a sinus infection. If it's strep, you'll be on antibiotics for 10 days--by day 2 or 3, your throat will already be clearer!!!

OMG Jenna.. I'm so sorry but don't worry your voice should be back in a couple days. You will be be fine and I'm sending prayers your way.

I know it's long but I got this off a website...

' If you have laryngitis, keep your throat moist.

Keeping your throat moist as much as possible is the first step to curing laryngitis.

Carry a bottle of lukewarm water or juice with you, and sip from it constantly. You can also drink warm tea with honey. Avoid drinking liquids that are too hot or cold.

Hot toddies are not a good home remedy for laryngitis.

People have often used hot toddies as a home remedy for laryngitis. But alcohol will dry out your throat, which will worsen or prolong your laryngitis.

Giving your vocal cords a rest is the best thing you can do for laryngitis.

Laryngitis is often an injury caused by overuse of your vocal cords. And, just like you'd rest a sprained ankle or wrist, you should rest injured, overworked vocal cords.

Don't talk if you can help it. And avoid activities that would put extreme stress on your vocal cords, like singing, or shouting.

Don't whisper.

It would seem like whispering would be less stressful on your vocal cords. But whispering actually puts more strain on your voice than talking normally does. In fact, whispering can be as straining as shouting. So, if you must speak, don't whisper.

Gargling does more harm than good. You've probably been told that gargling with warm saltwater is the best cure for laryngitis. But gargling actually puts more of a strain on your already overworked vocal cords.' HTH
