sensitive question

sensitive question

here is one for you ladies...

do any of you have friends who you consider to be close, who you don't want to discuss wedding stuff with? I have a friend who has't said anything directly, but i dunno... i just get a weird vibe whenever wedding is mentioned so i don't talk about it... By 'weird' I mean just sort of a 'yes' 'no' asnwer to questons type of thing... or has no comment at all, just sort of a smile and a look that you can tell thoughts are churning in their head... does any of this make sense? And I honestly don't think she means to do it, but i get such strong vibes! Jealousy? I'm not sure.

this event brings out such EXAGGERATED, WEIRD, UNEXPECTED behavior in people you assumed were otherwise normal... doesn't it?

Re: sensitive question

I get that feeling from family members, unfortunately. It's definately wierd. I hope they go back to normal after the wedding.

Re: sensitive question

I completely know what you are talking about!! One of my BMs is behaving this way and so where some of the others at first. On Thanksgiving Day though, I sat them all down and showed them my planning book and we talked about ideas and things seem a little better now.... although one of them did take off without even saying goodbye (with her BF)....

Re: sensitive question

I too get it more from his family members....but at the same time they ask me how the plans are going...if I simply say 'fine'..I'm a *****...if I go into detail..I am boring.
Can't win so I avoid any wedding talk with 'his' side

Yes, I can definitely relate! I also have another friend that no matter what I say to her about anything she always has something negative to say... gets me so mad!

Re: sensitive question

I felt that way w/ some of my friends also. Weird, I wouldnt mention the wedding on purpose cause I felt funny talking about it. Maybe it jealousy? I cant see what it could be.

I agree I have the same problem. I have a friend or so u can call her that u can't talk to about the wedding either. I just stopped talking to her about it. I do think that it might be a jealousy issue. Might I mention that she waited until I set my wedding date. So that she could make hers one month before mine.

Re: sensitive question

WOW, I'm relieved to find out there are others out there with the same kind of friends...who knew!..yes, I have 'that' friend..it's like you have to feel guilty even mentioning the event to her..meanwhile this is one the happiest times in your life and this person begrudges you for it!
I DEFINITELY think it's jealousy..and she is one of my BM too...

Re: sensitive question

Is she also engaged? Or already married? Maybe she is comparing your wedding to hers? Or maybe the opposite... maybe she is jealous and can't bear to hear about it? Just some thoughts.

Re: sensitive question

I think I was that friend, this past year. . .

A couple I am friends with got engaged last november, and honestly, i was jealous, because we had always talked about gettign maried, but other things kept getting in the way, and i figured we would probbly want to wait utill after they were amried to get engaged, to not take away fromthem, and it just seem like one more delay , so i wasn't so receptive to their wedding babble & I purposely scheduled a trip so I didn't have to go to the shower.

I hope I wasn't too obvious about it though.

It wasn't their fault my FH was a little slow, but I took it out on them all the same.

Re: sensitive question

I have always been excited for my friends weddings! I am really the 1st of my close group of friends to get married soo I try to be really careful not to rub it in any ones face just in case - and they are like whats going on with the wedding - tell us. So turns out I am not gushing enough !

My FH family is super weird about it - they dont ask they dont get excited - his Grandmother said she wasnt coming the other day. I think his Mom will get into it eventually.

My father = Wedding what Wedding? He is in total denial.
My ass head aunt called me the 'angry bride'
because I said no participation dances and no lady in red song (sorry I just cant take it).

My uncle asked when I start the wedding diet?
My grandmother dosent want me to give favors.
And every one from people I work with to cousins I hate want to know why I am waiting sooo loooong for.

Yes I feel your pain ! My friends and my Mother have been the only sane people during this process!

Re: sensitive question

My friends seem interested, but my brother doesn't. He was having marriage trouble when I got engaged and instead celebrating, he came over, congratulated us, and then started to complain about his wife...ON THE DAY I GOT ENGAGED!!

Re: sensitive question

Um on the day I got engaged which happenend to also be my birthday my FBIL 's girlfriend decided she would race over to FH grandmothers hysterical crying because her and the brother 'broke up'.before we got there, and then conviently left before we came over. (she already knew we were engaged his brother was the 1st person we told and she was with him.)

Can we say attention issues ?????

I got to spend the day listening how upset his family was that there 3 month relationship had ended - did I mention they are suprise suprise back together.

She is a pig from hell.

Re: sensitive question

I have a friend where our relationship has kinda dwindled... we're in 2 different places right now. I feel soooo weird talking about the wedding and she doesn't ask me about it. If she doesn't ask, I don't want to bring it up and push it in her face, you know?? Oh well... some people are sensitive (just like me in my own ways )

Re: sensitive question

that's tough - i have people who i can tell are definitely 'bored' by weddng details...i generally just talk about other things with them.....i hate talking to people about things that they're going to be nasty about!

besides...you have us to talk to about weddign stuff!!!

Re: sensitive question

wow!, i thought i was the only one who felt like this.
one of my friends is actually the opposite. she asks me questions all the time
but i think it is because she is getting married first and just wants to make
sure her wedding is better than mine, so i think she is really trying to compete
(i already know she is having a much more expensive wedding but that's
because her parents are basically footing the whole bill)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well thats one. FH's family is already talking crap, saying we are too young
i am 23 and he is 26 and that i won't be able to finish law school because
we will start having kids (HELLO ANYONE HEARD OF BIRTH CONTROL) that
we don't have enough money to be having such a 'huge wedding', that
why I am making him spend soooo much money? OMG i don't even know
how much stuff they are saying behind my back. i only found these things
out because my aunt overheard (our families are friends) i actually think
it is jealousy because no one in his family has had a big, traditional wedding

P.S. sorry this is so long but i took advantage that so many felt this way
and i had to vent. there is still so much more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: sensitive question

OMG i got the same treatment from a so called friend .... she was Jealous of me getting married in general not who i was marring but the idea of me starting a new life made her turn weird...

when she heard i was engaged she didnt approach me, call me or anything to say congrats (she was waiting for me to ask her to be a BM-yeah right)... then when i did see her she didnt mention it.... whats funny is i saw my E ring catch her eye, but she didnt comment on it. . i didnt understand it then my sis had pointed it out to her and she said 'Oh very lady like and looked away and changed the subject' I thought she felt real bad that i didnt ask her to be a BM ..the story goes on & on ... To make a long story short i invited her to my E party, she said she couldnt come cause she had to work(she didnt even have a job), but she had a new dress for the party all along according to sis, she didnt rsvp, i called and she said she had time up until the party (Oh really.. .) then she called to say come last min. she wanted me to beg her to come! - i didnt the seating charts were already made ... well theres more to it and i dont want to make anyone else crazy....Anyway i havent spoken to her in almost 2 months and i am very Happy NO MORE BS! Her personality has been changing for the worse over the last few years and i didnt need her to continue to add the aggravations. Se La Ve ?
ahhhh a little venting always feels better
