Personally, I didn't have anyone effected by it. But i'm still not sure I'd celebrate anything on that day. Maybe on weddingbee it includes girls from other states. I think the date is diff. for new yorkers.

I would pick that date....but only because its my grandparent's anniversary and I would love to have the same anniversary as them.

My mother wanted to have my shower on September 11th, and I had a complete fit over it. She didn't see anything wrong with it, but I just couldn't have my day connected with that day...I feel it's a day of remembrance. As a compromise, my mother moved the shower to September 12th. I didn't want my shower to be held on that day, so there's no way I would want to get married on that day.

I know its different but like... people get married on Christmas? Kris got married on Father's Day?

People get married on their birthdays?

It's a terrible thing that happened. I'm super patriotic and I'm a conservative so I'm gung-ho about being all 'WHAT NOW?!' on 9/11. And we probably all know someone that was affected by it...

.... but I'm not going to be mopey every 9/11 for the rest of my life.

Celebrate our lives and our country and yes, remember those affected but like... why not make it a happy day if you can?

I personally wouldn't. It is always a sad day for everyone and FH's father was FDNY at that time and FH's brother/BM is also FDNY. Even if they weren't, I still wouldn't get married on that day. Every anniversary you will be seeing the memorial services on tv, feeling the sadness of that day, etc. It's a personal choice I suppose, but I wouldn't do it.

Keep in mind that WeddingBee is a national board and while Sept. 11th was a sad day for our entire nation, people in NY felt the effects much more strongly than someone in Kansas would have.

I was going to have mine on 9/11/10 but we ended up using labor day weekend cdause our sunday night was more like a saturday with the holiday.

It's just a day and we thought it would be nice to replace the memory of something sad with something that made us happy. I think some people are thinking that way as well.

Maybe it's more strange to us cause we live in NY. I don't know if it sticks int he back of the minds of girls across the country in the same way as it affects us just cause it was so close.

I am getting married the Sat after the 18th...we knew we wanted to get married in Sept, and the 4th is Labor Day weekend, then there is the 11th and the 26th was too late in the month.....we never once considered 9/11 even though we could have saved a crap load of money. Just did not feel right to celebrate on a day with such saddness attached to it.
