Serious Dress problems, please help me (kinda long)

Serious Dress problems, please help me (kinda long)

I have purchased a dress about 6 months ago. It is a very beautiful Maggie Sotero 'Dion' in Ivory, however, my bridal salon has just informed me that even though the dress is already 6 weeks late, it will not be in for another 4 weeks. (I am getting married in early January.) I am also a full time-student & work full-time, so I specifically asked that the dress be shipped by Labor day before I went back to school. I also have my LSAT's the first week of december, and my GMAT's in 2 weeks. (I know... I am crazy)

I spoke with another dress shop who could get me a Vera Wang sample in ONE WEEK! It is my size, and he is going to have it cleaned & pressed for me. I really love this dress & the sample is in great shape (no rips or anything) and is actually the original dress I wanted. Because it is a sample it is less than what I paid for my Maggie.....What should I do??????

Also, I foud out that my dress sells for about $500 less on average in NY than what I paid for it. When I told the bridal shop they told me 'tough.'

Can you cancell the maggie dress, tell them they didn't fulfill their shipping obligations and you are no longer interested. That may work.

Good luck.

Thank you, Karen.... I am actually having my lawyer review the contracts this week & we are going there Saturday afternoon to yell & scream when they are busy to see what we get.

I am just a little scared b/c many girls dresses are there too... al 9 of them & 2 of my girls live in the UK, so I cannot get them new dresses before the wedding. But I am still going to try.

I agree- if they gaurenteed a dress to you by a specific date and they didn't comply with that, then you might be able to get a refund. Do they have a written policy about it? If you feel that they should refund you and they refuse, you can file a formal complaint with the BBB.

Another option- buy the 2nd dress & wear that. Then, you can sell the 1st one on ebay or on theknot.com. That might work too. A lot of people on theknot.com like Maggie Sottero dresses and people seem to sell them all the time.

Thanks Mindy....the problem is they verbally told me the dress would be in by labor day, but on my contract it says they are only obligated to deliver by the date of the wedding

If you originally wanted the Vera Wang, that's the one you love, isn't it? And there has to be something you can do that your Maggie Sotero is 4 weeks late on top of a 6week delay and we're in November...shouldn't you be doing fittings already??? I say go with your gut instinct, get the Vera Wang that you love.

Thanks btrflygrl..... My lawyer is pretty confident that I can get my deposit back for the dress, but I am stuck with the veil & the headpiece (but that's OK because they match the VW dress also.)
Yes, I should have has fittings already, and I have not been able to go to my design session with Jack because I have no dress swatch to bring him to match my flowers. I feel so bad, I had to cancel 2x already!

The response is overwhelmingly in favor of getting the Vera, so I will place the order tonight!

Thanks gals!

If you can do it, buy the Vera Wang and then worry about the other dress later.

Good Luck!

Go get your money back! They are late with delivering you with the dress and it's completely their fault. Go for the VW dress!!

Good luck!

Did you pay for the deposit of the first dress with credit? If so talk to credit card company and find out if you are legally entitled to get your money back.

If not, take the dress, buy the Vera Wang one you want and sell the first dress on ebay or elsewhere.

And tell the bridal salon they suck. Why so long for the dress? Sounds like they didn't order it when you thought they were going to.

It will be almost 3 months late getting in. That's insane.
